R50/53 Excessive camber driver front only
Excessive camber driver front only
Ok so recently I hit a pothole, damaged struts and mushroomed tops. So repaired tops, got coilovers, and reinforcement plates as well. Everything else looks to be fine. New wheels and tires as well. Well long story short, getting alignment today, everything is good except driver front camber is negative 3 degrees, pass. Front is .50+. Any input on where to start diagnosing? Its pretty lowered but 3 degrees difference from left to right, and im lost.
If the front struts are new, and the mushroomed strut mount towers were beat back down and the new reinforcement plates were added and you're still getting -3 on one side and -.5 on the other....something is definitely wrong.
You probably need to start looking at the lower ball joints, and/or lower control arm bushings and make sure you didn't break/bend/tweak something under there.
It must have been a hell of a pothole in order to blow out your front shocks.
By the way......do the coilovers you got have mounts that allow you to adjust the camber?

Yeah another weird thing I noticed, it the lower ball joint om the 3degree side, was way "lower" than the right, to the point I had to cut excess threads off to fit my 15" wheels on it, possibly a sign it, or the control arm is bent? No adjustment for camber unfortunately. Im gonna take some stuff apart next day off to see if I notice anything unusual

if you bent a control arm, that would cause camber, also check the bushings, could have trashed those as well. (seems like this pothole did some damage) what coilovers did you get? some have the camber plates up top and can be adjusted. Tie rods wont have any affect, and I doubt the swaybar endlinks would as well either
Do you get any type of vibration in the wheel? Shaking of the steering wheel at high speeds is a good indicator that the control arm bushings are worn, the ball joints are worn, or the control arm itself has become bent. If you need help with the control arms or ball joints be sure to check out this article here. Control arms here if needed.

There is vibration mostly at speeds under 50 that ive notoced. Bushings on control arms are torn, havent had ball joints out to look at them yet. Im trying to do the easy checks first, dont wanna go spending $$ unnecessarily yet. And unfortunately my coilovers use stock strut ropstops so no camber adjustments
