2005 Coupe Chimes/Audibles/Alerts

Because I purchased this car only about 1 month ago I still am learning lots about this car and there is lots I don't know ( just realized yesterday that it had headlight washers!).Because this will be my daughters car and she is away at University there is 1 concern I have, there are no audible tones when the keys are left in the car, when the car lights are left on with the ignition key out or when the setbelts are not on while driving?
I took her car to the Mini dealer and he said that there are no alerts/chimes/audibles( whatever you want to call it) when these conditions occur? This means that it is very easy to leave the lights on when the car is parked and come back to a dead battery.

Could anyone shed some light on this with regards to your 2005 Mini Cooper and what alerts it has? If is there a way to check if there is a blown fuse or bad chime box if it supposed to have one?

Thank you very much for reading this long post and replying.
Happy Motoring

My 03 dings when I leave the lights on or the keys are still in the ignition. It doesn't have an audible alert when the tank is near empty, though. The red light on the gauge comes on but that's it.

interesting, my car chimes when keys are still in ignition, lights are on, and when it hits 37 deg F to watch for ice. I don't know if I get a low warning chime for fuel tho.

your car should definently have one for the lights

That is what I was hoping to hear except I looked at a wiring diagram for a 2005 and I could not see the chime box and where it is wired to? Can someone point me to the location of this unit and wiring diagram if you have that. Thanks for the reply

It is also a programmable option, so it may just have been turned off. A dealer will charge $100 for reprogramming so do some research and make a list of everything you'd want changed all at once.

My mini dealer said that I do not have that option yet the build sheet says I have a seat belt alert? I agree with the programming theory but was hoping to do zone checking first myself before I go back to the dealer

your daughter just has to learn to live with it. This is one of things about buying an older car(i concder 10 years a ling time) you are not "babyed" by the vehicle, and its one of the things i love about my mini.

Mine too, also you will get a beep if you have factory PDC ( Back up sensors ) .

So from what I am hearing, there should be some sort of a chime for certain things and maybe not others but it could be programming to activate these? The problem could also be a faulty chime box, fuse or maybe the previous owner unplugged it because he didn't like it?
I am not going to pay the $100 for the dealer to look at the program as he already said the car is not equipped with chimes/audibles ( I don't agree and that is why I am posting here).I do not have the software myself and do not plan on getting it as that is over my head. But I do have an electrical background and can read schematics so I was wondering if someone had the scan of the schematic for the chime box and maybe a location of the device?
Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I bought the car for my daughter who is away at University and is also a new driver, this can only help to alert her the keys are left in or maybe that the lights are left on? 1.5 hr drive for me to go boost her,(ha,ha)2005 Coupe Chimes/Audibles/Alerts-20150929_155007-1-.jpg

Thanks for all the replies to a newbie Cooper owner ( these cars can be complex)!
