NON-RESPECTING Neighbors

So last night at around 9:30 I got to my fiance's house and parked my mini where I have been parking all my cars for over 5 years now. I always park across the street in front of her neighbors house because it is easier for me to leave at night. It gives me a direct route to the main street. I noticed that he decided to pull his car out of the driveway and proceed to work on something. Being the nosey, suspicious little bastard that I am, I watched him for a little while and debated to whether or not move the car and park it in front of my fiance's house. I didn't move it and when I left at 11PM I come to find out that this motherf'r decided to water my car (not his grass) because I parked there. What kind of ********* does such a thing? The only water was on my car ! ! ! Needless to say, I'm parking it there tonight again, and I'm going to watch it like a hawk, praying that he screws up again!

First, that bites.
Second, it is perfectly legal to park in front of someone's house.
Third, as a homeowner, I suggest you go talk with the guy, and ask if he minds if you park in front of his house. He gets a chance to be a nice guy and say yes, and feels that you're showing him some respect. You get to park your car in a convenient place and not worry about it.

The alternative is a nasty confrontation that you have no chance of 'winning'. At best, you get pissed. He could water your car, or do far worse, and if you don't see it, you can't prove it. Then it escalates into tit-for-tat vandalism, and again, nobody, including you, wins.

Best of luck in resolving the issue!

I usually leave a note on the car if it's always parked in front of my house
and if it bothers me. The distance between my driveway and my next door
neighbor's drive is too close so the trunk of the car usually sticks out into
my driveway by about a foot or so.

It says something like "You are welcome in our neighborhood,
but please park your car elsewhere. Thank you"

As a home owner, I don't particulary appreciate people parallel parking
in front of my house especially when there is a visitor parking spot open
right in front of my house and its in the suburbs...but i don't go out
spraying people's cars with water or anything. That's just mean.

without knowing exactly what the situation is, how is it easier to park on that side instead of your fiance's side? I'm not trying to be a jerk, really, but it seems if it's a street you can park on either side. Maybe i'm misunderstanding the situation, but it seems like it would just be easier to change sides. I personally wouldn't trust the guy after that.

Hummmm.... Obviously you don't live in Boston 'cause up here the locals will do much worse than "spray your car with water" if you park in what they consider to be one of "their" parking spaces (usually marked with strategically placed pieces of cardboad boxes or ratty lawn chairs). Yeah, what they're doing is illegal (true enough, even in Boston no one "owns" street parking spaces)...but they've been doing it for decades and frankly some of these feebs have so little of a life that there's little else they'd like to do than to start a fight over a frickin' piece of asphalt.

How about chicago? In some hood they place pylons to mark their spots. That doesn't fly here though cause they'll get their car vandalized.

First off, it's water... big deal. The car isn't going to melt, get over it

Second who is the one who doesn't have respect? Them or you?

Granted they don't have the right to determine who does and who doesn't park in front of their home on a public street...

But there's no NEED for you to park in front of their house either. You're parking there out of laziness, your visiting your fiance go take up space in front of her house.

I moved into a rental house where the street parking was only allowed on one side of the street... mine. I started to notice my neighbor across the street was used to parking his beat-up pick-up truck in front of my house even though he had room in his drive way. When I met him for the first time I asked if his truck was going to always be parked in front of my house. He was very apologetic about it, and noticed both my cars were two seaters. He said I could use his truck any time I wanted. Score! I used his truck more than a dozen times over the three years I was there and we became friends.

Agreeing with mbabischkin

It's water. It's not like they threw rocks at your car

yeah, one time I parked an old sta. wgn in front of some guys house up on Beacon Hill, and when I got back, all for tires had been slashed
last weekend my neighbor(back yard) decided to water his lawn and the spray from his sprinkler buried the side of my car with mud from the bouncing water. He had watched me meticulously washing the car just hours earlier.I went out, moved the car to a different spot away from the sprinkler,RE washed the car and later when I had cooled off and I saw him up on his deck, I went out and told him he was perfectly within his rights to water his lawn ,and at this point I handed him a piece of paper with my name and phone # on it, but would he mind giving me a call so I could move my car.we'll see how this plays out, but not only is he the clerck of the local superior court, but he is head of the probation Dept. too!

Yeah, I gotta agree with most everyone else here. I too am a homeowner and I also find it VERY annoying to have someone else ALWAYS parking in front of my house. Yeah, I know it's a public street. But, what if I want to have someone come visit? I had another neighbor park their car in front of my house for a couple of weeks straight, never moved it. Turns out that the car broke down and they never had time to fix it. Right before I was ready to call the cops and report that it was abandoned (which it looked like) they magically came over, jump-started the car and moved it to their own house. Me personally, I don't mind people parking in front of my house from time to time. But, to me it's just plain rude to force people to have to look at your car in front of their house for 5 years.

What you need is street sweeping. That's what they have here and if someone parked for five years..that would be 5x52=260 tickets..and at $35 a ticket that's a lot of $$. Actually, after three tickets, the car gets the old boot and then it can't be moved.

Get in touch with your local Al Queda cell, arrange to have him kidnapped and
refuse to give in to their demands.

Even the Jetta driving "Lincoln Park Trixie" will key your car if you park in a spot that was "marked" during a winter storm. I kind of understand, since they probably spent two hours digging out their cars just to have someone else take the spot. However, I think that if you are that concerned about it, buy/rent a parking spot and be done with it.

well... it's true that people put cardboards and chairs to save their parking spots. well... at least that's what happen in boston. but i think it's kinda unfair for people to say it without mentioning that it happens only during the winter because these people shoveled the snow out of those spots. technically it's not legal but it's still annoying to find out the spot that you shoveled the snow out of has been stolen. just a little thought. thank god i have my own garage to park my precious mini in.

I can understand that, but this was in the summer time. They shovel snow in the summer?

I live on a sleepy little street in a fairly unknown pocket of West L.A., just east of Venice Beach. For some reason, people just LOVE to dump stolen vehicles OR conduct their illicit love affairs IN THEIR CARS on this street! LOL! You would NOT believe what I've inadvertently seen out my front window!!

The neighbors are all cool, parking carefully enough to allow a space for our ancient old Trooper in front of our house, yet they have plenty of room to park their SUV in the back half of that space. Wanda parks in the driveway, and Scooter the 'Vette lives in our tiny, single garage!

I say have a neighborhood party, have a few beers with the pesky hoser (tee hee ), become a "real person" to him, and see what you can do to make friends with him! Perhaps he'll adopt you and your MINI as his new pals, and keep an eye out for y'all!
