R50/53 Planning a bunch of repairs at once - What else?
Planning a bunch of repairs at once - What else?
2003 R53 with 170K Miles.
Since it sucks to put the car in front end service mode, I'm trying to bang a bunch of stuff out at once. I've been searching the forums for a few days to figure out important items to address.
Here's what I've thought of:
- Change Supercharger oil, all related gaskets. (See link below)
- Replace Serpentine Belt
- Replace Belt Tensioner
- Replace Crank Position Sensor O-Ring
- Replace Valve Cover Gasket
- Replace Spark Plugs
- Replace water hoses???? (Not sure what or how many)
I want to try and do this all in a weekend. So getting all the parts in advance is ideal. if you have a link to the items, please share. I've found various links all over the place.
Here's a parts list so far:
- Supercharger oil: http://amzn.to/1GfpGuh
- Supercharger Input Gasket: http://amzn.to/1QEc5ri
- Throttle Body O-Ring: http://amzn.to/1Gt5vMy
- Water Pump O-ring: http://amzn.to/1N2K2wc
- Serpentine Belt: http://amzn.to/1Tukexv
- Serpentine Belt Tensioner: http://bit.ly/1BnpddA
- Crank Position Sensor O-Ring: http://bit.ly/1FmCVIH
- Valve Cover Gasket: http://amzn.to/1Soiswm
- Spark Plugs: Suggestions???
- Hoses???
- Coolant
I'm leaking oil pretty bad and I've been told it's my valve cover gasket and the CPS o-Ring. Any other places?
Any other items to address? Trying to be pro-active.
Thanks for your help!
Dave

The list is looking good! If you need any help while digging into your MINI you can use our tech articles here. Can look under engine to see other viable fixing options to do while you're in there. Maybe change out your ignition coils while you're doing all of this if you haven't already. Genuine spark plugs are probably your best bet, otherwise Bosch is a good product as well. This thread here is a good read about common oil leaks with the R53. Water hose options here. Good luck! Looks like a fun weekend you've got planned.

Change your oil dipstick tube o-ring while you're in there! When I was doing my supercharger oil, I pulled everything apart only to find that it was leaking worse than my CPS o-ring. Also, have some fresh new vacuum hose on hand & replace the short bit of line that goes to the bypass valve. It tends to get rock hard & is not accessible at all unless in front end service mode.

Thanks a bunch!
Did you replace the flange? What gaskets?
Don't forget to change the block outlet o-ring for the water pump. There's a flange that bolts to the block that has an o-ring.
There's also a block off plate behind the supercharger that has an o-ring.
