COOP got hurt!

Some guy in a rented Mitsu Spyder blew through a four-way stop at full speed as I was crossing the intersection. I saw him coming and tried to floor it to get out of the way, but he was going much to fast and I had about a quarter second of reaction time. He ended up hitting my driver's side rear quarter-panel and rear wheel and spinning me around. Shockingly, the side airbag didn't deploy (probably because he just missed hitting the door), and COOP is still drivable with no noticeable side effects. Suspension looks OK. Hopefully the frame is in good shape. Fingers are crossed. I'm going to get an estimate tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Bad news - sorry for you.

The airbag will only fire if the impact is severe enough to justify; sounds like a "glancing blow" impact, which sends energy sideways so did not warrant airbag triggering ... saves a little repair cost!

Good to hear that you're okay. I saw the aftermath of a Expediation or something like and it hit an old american car right on the driver side door. The suv ppl were sitting around while the american car was wheeled into the ambulance. This was on 580 eastbound around 4PM yesterday in Oakland, CA.

Thanks for the support, everyone. Still waiting to follow up with insurance before I take him in to the shop. I'm definitely going to need a new wheel and tire (chunk taken out of sidewall)...I'm wondering how that's going to work with one brand new tire and three 75% shot tires.

I'll keep you updated and hopefully post pictures later today.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I had an accident in a similar area. I went backwards into a tire wall at the track and hit on the rear driver's side and scuffed the side of the car up. I cost me $1600 to fix in Colorado. They pushed out a grapefruit sized dent in the RR panel, put on a new door skin, replaced various pieces of plastic and repainted the side of the car.

OUCH! I just hate the way most people drive in Chicago! I am surprised that it was not a cab that hit you! JEEZ! Don't replace just the one hurt tire though... you should replace at minimum 2 tires...

Might want to talk to Alex at the tirerack. They can shave new tires to
match your other tires.
