Steering Column Boot Weirdness

I noticed the other day that there is a boot flapping around my steering column. And there is already one currently installed in the firewall. Is this suppose to go over the firewall boot? Or did the factory give me an extra? Seems superfluous.

Its the other one , Seals for weather and sound. Its hard to get back on that lip seal, start it on the lip and then work it around till sealed on the firewall.

It's that schematic that has me confused. It's not #6, as that's the firewall boot already in place. This is a flat boot that I don't see on that schematic. ...?

Yes number 6 is the ones that is already there " 32131504578 " . And comes with that boot on the outside ( that fell off) with it , even though the diagram does not show it.

I see. It, #6, is really a sub-assembly falling under one part#. Thanks for the help!

Mine has been flapping around ever since I dropped the front subframe. I lost patience trying to get it back together. Any tips? Soap?

Used a small flat head and worked it from the side while pressing down the lip. It was a bit of a pain to get back on. Took a couple times.

We just found this cover loose as well this morning. Car is already back on the ground, so we'll try to get it back on next time...

On which side of the firewall does it end up sitting once the two parts have been combined? the inside of the car (footwell), or the outside?

I ended up separating mine dropping the sub-frame as well...

The one boot clips to the out side of the firewall ( closest to the engine bay) and the other one goes under it.
