how do I find out if my mini is an R50 or R53? Yes its a dumb question but I need to know. its a 2003 MCS 6 speed

 

MINI Cooper S (supercharged) is a R53. If it's not, then it's justa cooper which is a R50. Also, the R53 has the W11 engine & the R50 has the W10 engine.

If the battery is in the boot (trunk) it's an R53; if it's under the bonnet (hood) you have an R50.

 

Assuming we're not talking about convertibles...

Two easy ways from a distance: If there is a scoop in the hood, you've got an S If there are two exhaust pipes out of the center of the back bumper, it's an S ("justa's" have a single off the right rear)

"S" is an R53
"Justa's" are R50's

FWIW, under the data specs,this lists all the standard and optional equipment available at the time, not just for your car. At least, that's what comes up when I put in my vin #'s
