R50/53 Question about swapping to leather heated seats
Question about swapping to leather heated seats
I managed to buy a second 2006 JCW. It didnt come with leather, cold weather package, or HK audio. My first JCW did. I am looking to swap
in some stock leather seats (it had aftermarket leather seats installed at Dealer) with heat. Prefer the English panther leather seats that
my first car has. Second car does not have an extra plug so its not
prewired for heated seats :(. Is there a good place to pick up seats. Dont
see any advertised here or on the web in general.

What year was the first car you are pulling the seats out of? If you BUY them...make sure they are from PRODUCTION DATE 2005+ (my 2004 build, but 2005 model car does not have the sensors)...the sensor is in the bottom cushion...about a $1000 item if it fails...
I ask because 2005+ PRODUCTION date cars have an extra weigh sensor in the passenger seat because they have duel stage Airbags that varry based on the passenger weight...older cars had only single stage....

I need to find the seats (hard part) from somewhere. Will do on the production date. I figure getting this done is a long shot. I assume that I will have to contact a recycling/wrecker yard via the internet to find the seats. Car was originally from Florida so can see why they didnt get the package. The seats in the car are very nice, 2 tone black/grey with JCW emblems on the headrest but really want heat
Are the seats themselves prewired for heat that you are putting in ? If so you can always add the heated seat switch side.

Double check on the production you will need the newer 2005 seats, I have an early 05 right before the seat sensor came active.

They are not prewired :(. They were the base plastic surface seats. Dont have a problem with the existing leather so maybe retrofitting them is a better option? Wouldnt mind having heated mirror either.
Production date is March 18, 2006 according to BMW VIN decoder

How does one find out for sure? Did not order heated seats because I was trying to stay below a certain price when I bought the car, it's really the only equipment I wish I could retrofit.

It seems about 50% of cars got the heated seats...just not hooked up...
Seems mini over ordered... And they were installed in many cars, but not plugged in!!
Look under the seat for an unused connector...
If you see an empty plug...you should be in luck!! A few older threads on it...I was not lucky... But many were...and only needed the retrofit kit..

I am definitely confused. When I shopped for my first Cooper I looked at a Royal Grey JCW with english panther leather but no cold weather package that was prewired (it had a spare big black plug). My JCW with same seats and cold weather looks the same, the drivers side has 4 plugs, blue, yellow, small black, large black [heated seats]. My silver JCW with no cold weather has only the blue and black plugs, no small or large black plub) on the drivers seat. The passenger seats has 4 plugs, blue, yellow, small black, and a white/black combo. ?????
The extra plug on the passenger seat if for the seat mat, aka, the weight sensor ..
If all the plugs are used...no luck.
It was speculated that mini did not order enough unheated seats...so they just grabbed the heated, and left them unplugged and unwired if the car did not need heated seats...
Most cars have had at least ONE person look under the seat by now...but a few are likely undiscovered still....

Think it was a supplier shortage too zippy. Check under the seats, linked above.
