MINI of Pittsburgh donated a Cooper to the Sheriff's Dept. for promotional use. That makes them the first law enforcement organization in the country to have a MINI.

I know that a dealer in SF had a CHP Cooper a while back, but that wasn't actually owned by the CHP. I'm sure one of you will post a pic.

Meanwhile, here's the Allegheny Sheriff's MINI:

 

I'm not sure that is true about them being the first law enforcement organization in the country to have a MINI.

I believe the Mid Town Atlanta Police have had an entire fleet of MINIs now for quite a while.

Let's hear from some of the Atlanta MINI owners.

 

They won't catch many speeders in that one - should have gone for the Cooper Works, or at least an "S".

 

hey, i got a ticket there on the way back from ithaca, NY. They told me they wouldnt tell mommy (as in, insurance co.) if i paid the ticket on time, but they told my insurance co anyway... gar!

oh well, that was a while ago.

i was speeding in my awesome teal 94 corolla. he must've thought i was going fast cause i had a factory spoiler on there. har

 

In our county the Sheriff's car is used to cart suspects between the prison and the courthouse. They all ride in the back seat. They also use them to transport prisoners from other counties (in fact, it is common to see either Allegheny or Philadelphia County Sheriff cars driving 300 miles across the PA turnpike between Pittsburgh and Philly).

Can you imagine transporting a couple of large perps in back of that MINI?

While not owned by the agency, there is an owner of a MINI who is a CA CHP at the scales in Cabazon. The license plate reads CHPMINI.

 

I seem to remember some articles a while back about several countries overseas using MINIs as police cars?

 

Yes, we are well aware that the regular Cooper is a hunk of junk that has all the speed of a slug. We should just go ahead an ban all talk about that so-called MINI and only allow posts about the "real" ones.

Can't we all just get along? I, for one, drive an S, and love Coopers equally. S snobs make me too.

Hey, I wasn't cutting down regular Mini's. The whole concept of speed and stock car racing in the U.S. was started by the concept of the "police intercepter" engine. Moonshiners had to have cars faster than the Police. The Police think they are supposed to have the fastest cars. Just makes sense. If the meter maids want to use that Mini, I am sure it will be adequate. If you are chasing Ferrari Testarossas, I think it should stay home. What's next, a Scion B?

 

Unfortunately for many people the "S" stands for "snob" It's sad and it's driving me right out of the MINI community.

More to the point, the MINI police car is pretty cool and it would do fine in regular service, even chasing moonshiners in their testarossa's, since that car and most others in the US would be wrapped around a light pole if they tried to corner at speed.

 

Really? I've never even -thought- of being a snob to someone in a Cooper. We're all in this boat together, and we all, presumably, got in the boat for the same reasons - a pretty damn cool car. S is just faster. There is absolutely nothing that any S owner should say to any Cooper owner, other than give a thumbs up and a smile.

ACETONIC this is absolute crap coming from you! For all those proud MC owners, myself included, I ask you to retract this statement. The MC and MCS are identical in many ways, most importantly the same platform. As to the reckless and unsubstantiated "hunk of junk" comment, please clarify that for this forum.

For any problem of the MC I can enumerate one for the MCS as well. They're both fine cars. Any new car can come off the assembly line with problems. If you've been following other car forums as I have (Acura, Mazda 3) you'll find that NO car is without it's glitches, some even with serious ones.

I don't want to flame MCS owners, but in city driving (which is what we do most of the time), what advantage does the MCS have over the MC?

I was once a proud MC owner. But reading this forum and others, as well as listening to snide comments at MINI events has lead me to the sad truth that the only MINI worth mentioning is the S. I'll just have to sit at home with my poor un-supercharged Cooper and wish I could have all the fun that others are having.

You were swayed (to switch to the MCS) by reading this forum and listening to "snide comments" at MINI meets??? you are perpetuating the very same snide comments about the MC that you experienced at those meets, comments, no doubt, based on very subjective personal idiosyncrasies. The MCS is not for everybody. Niether is the Honda S2000, for that matter, if you want to talk about really nice performance cars.

Sorry that you bought the MCS for the wrong reason: speed and power above everything else. Live recklessly or die, as they say up in those there parts.
