So im looking to replace my coil and spark plug wires. Since i read bad reviews about MSD and others i figured i would just go OEM. Is it true that Prenco is the stock replacement?
Prenco 36-1158 (coil pack)
Prenco 35-pf77064 (plug wires)
Shopping around looks like you can get both for around $80 , Minimania wants $136 just for the coil

Prenco looks to be the OE for coil. Go Genuine for wires. They're reasonably priced. I compared the Beru leads, not exactly the same as genuine. Haven't seen the Prenco plug wires.

I'm running Ireland engineering wires, good wires at a reasonable price, look nice also. I agree, go oem with the coil pack.

I just purchased the Beru -- have used their plugs for years, have not installed yet. Cost was around $60.00 shipped from ECStuning

I have 2 stock coil packs, one removed from an R52 at 48k and one from an R53 at 52k miles. $40 for either if you want. No problems with either, just upgraded. PM me if interested.
I replaced mine with the MSD years ago and have never had any issues, its been tuned twice.

Can I ask why you are replacing a functioning coil pack? Wires I understand.
I have a coil pack on my car with far north of 100,000 miles & it is working fine.

Functioning yes but 11 years old. Cant hurt to spend $40 to freshen her up.Originally Posted by ashchuckton

I have to agree that OEM coils are a good idea. Wires are probably offer more choice, but OEM stuff is the safe idea.

What's the issue with adding more spark by upgrading coil packs and wires? I'm a mini noob but my previous experience with any combustion engine is it's never a bad thing to increase spark. Increase incoming air flow, fuel flow, combustion spark and exhaust flow.....right?

Sometimes adding extra spark causes overheat / misfire / early detonation. Very similar to heat soak. I know this is plugs, but if the plug is getting too much spark you will also be likely to be melting plugs etc. Along with ecu not giving proper readings because of improper voltage from the coil.
I'm not a mechanic or anything, but I had a bad time with too hot of plugs in my Hyundai.
