new here

Looking at grabbing an 06 mini S. It has 76.5k on the motor. Manual, steering wheel controls, Pana roof, for 10,450. Wondering if this is a steal? Was going to talk down to 9k. So I have extra funds to put on the garbino body kit and coil overs. Any pointers?
Thanks

unless its an unmodified well cared for JCW, no, would not say its a "steal" at 10.5. MY car is worth at least that, and it IS a well cared for (modified) JCW with 107k miles.

KBB is putting your car around 9k in perfect condition (with no major accessories, like leather, HK sound).

what other options does your car have? service records? your right at a mileage where either a pile of stuff SHOULD have been fixed, or is NEEDING to be fixed; so be careful! best advice; bring it to a mini dealer, tell them to go over it with a fine tooth comb, get the repair cost estimate, then have the guy drop that price down FROM 9k; THEN you have a steal of a deal.

Kinda high $$ IMO...but you know the condition...and records....so that's important...certainly possible price for a very low mile car with a good history....
Body kit huh....good luck...getting paint to match on a 2006 can be an issue if it lived outside....and reality I'd most body kits add weight...that can hurt performance.... Some can look OK...just a matter of taste I guess....

This is the ad. It does have leather. I am actually getting it repainted with a 2 tone paint. And the car will mostly be a weekend cruiser, snapping necks as I drive by lol. So weight won't be a priority

its clean, but certainly NOT "loaded", i can tell you that right now, even with all the blurry pics.

no tint, no arm rest, no rear fogs, no HK sound system, no ash tray (silly, but those are like $30+ if you can even find them), and one of those headlights looks really faded.

you can run the VIN through something on the forums here, see what options the car has. again, it mostly comes down to what work has been done to it.

Never realized no arm rest. My gf has a fit with no arm rest. Drives me nuts. Lol I'll definitely search the forum for THE VIN tracer. I was debating an 07 and an 06. I enjoyed both on test runs. Heard r56 versions have new additions but lack on turbo reliability? The info provided was exactly what I was looking for
thanks

Yep, no Chrono Pkg or Nav Pkg, No auto dimming review mirror, no auto rain sensing wipers, No heated seats (at least i assume not), No Pictures of the Engine - hummm.

Check the cabin Filter (under passenger dash). A lot of times that will tell you a lot if it's full of crap - then you can question how well the car was taken care of.

Check coolant color, and fluid levels. Go at night and check the lights of interior and exterior.

Check the brake pads if you can see them which you should be able to with those rims on.

Check the tension of the idle pulley (Push it back with your hands) you should not be able to or at least it should be very difficult if it's in good shape.

At the same time check the Serpentine belt for cracks

Check for oil leaks around head and valve cover

Check motor mounts (at least what you can see of them from above) and make sure they are not leaking

I wish I would have done all of the above. Would have saved me some cash.

There is more to check but the above is a good starting list.

I have had minimal problems with my 06 MCS. Just a lot of wear and tear items that need replacing and should have been taken care of if the previous owner would have taken proper care of the car.

I don't know about AZ but here in Sarasota, FL, a '06 MCS equipped like that with 73k mile would go for $11,500 or more. Here it is CRAZY how expensive Mini's are. Huge demand for them. Just like Jeeps here - crazy how they hold their value when in good condition.

Best of luck to you,
Greg

check for "mushroomed" strut mounts, and cracked strut plates (forget the name, big rubber things in the strut holes), also cracked bushings wherever possible...

look at the intercooler boots, make sure no cracks. the motor mount on the left (looking at the car from the bumper), look for oil, may have to look under if possible.

SomeguyinAZ, just FYI, I searched for just over 3 years to find my R53. I stumbled onto it at Schumacher Mercedes. It ended up being a JCW instead of an MC40 that I was originally looking for. I am extremely happy with my MINI. TRY to take your time buying one so you get what YOU want on the car. You will be much happier in the long run. Don't forget about looking here on the forums for people selling their MINIs. They will probably be better taken care of than something off of Craigslist. Get with some of the clubs near you and ask if they know of any good MINIs for sale. Just my .02 cents worth.

Definitely, I've been looking for about a year. I want a jcw, but they jump in price. I'll look on here as well. Thanks a ton Mib.
