What is this Strap For?

In the boot of the car on the Drivers side access hatch there is a Velcro Strap with a Red end, what is this for?

That holds a small tool pouch and tow hook. The pouch is black and has MINI and the MINI wings on it.

I have a tool kit in the battery well that has a tow hook, wrench, screw-driver.

I also have a black bag that is in the boot with the Jack and Lug Wrench, is there another tool kit?

The pouch that has the screwdriver and wrench in it is the one that is strapped down in that cubby.

I am not sure I understand, my tool kit is in a foam folding box. That box is tucked between the battery and the battery box.

That kit would never fit in velcro and even if it did it would make noise, is there another type of tool kit?

Mine is NOT a clubman but a standard Cooper S.

That's the one. My tow hook is out of the pouch, that may be why it fits. Sorry, I can't figure out how to post photos or I would send you one.

Yeah my tool kit looks like this one, and like I said fits in with the battery.

So no big deal as getting to that little cubby where the strap is, is a terrible pain for me as I have the Water/Meth Tank in front of that spot.

Remember....US cars may not have gotten all the options....
Some places, like Germany require things like an emergency first aid kit, other countries require refectors be carried in the car....so the side cubbies were convient places to store this stuff.....
My tools were in a foam box by the battery...but I have seen others in a bag...maybe the box was on later cars to get rid of rattles/clanks?

Yes in the other cubby (passenger side) I have a bunch of crap jammed in there:

  • Rag
  • Small FirstAid Kit

In the Jack Bag I have:
  • Jack
  • Lug Wrench
  • Slip Joint Pliers
  • Pair of disposable rubber gloves
  • LED Flash Light
  • Screw Driver with multiple tips Including all the common torqs
My Jack Bag did not have the Tire Chalk

In the Drivers Side cubby I have one of those tire plug kits.

I also care a breaker bar with the correct socket for the lugnuts, but I have not found a good place to store this so far, so its just thrown in the boot.

Between the jack bag and the cubby door I have a Slim and air pump kit.

Luckily I have never needed any of this stuff, but I also have AAA on the phone service.

Earlier cars (02-04) had the small kit in the side boot compartment. Later versions (05-06) had the styrofoam mounted kit by the battery. Apparently MINI forgot to delete the kit holddown strap, or maybe just left it for your other uses.
