New frosted glass sunroof/white top?

http://www.autospies.com/article/ind...articleId=3032
One of the coolest features of the MINI is the huge panoramic sunroof...the only problem is if you get one with a white roof there is a huge piece of black tinted glass in the middle of you white roof.

MINI will introduce the solution for 2005 model year cars...they have been able to manufacture a panoramic sunroof with a top layer that is white frosted glass...similar to an iMac.

That way, when you look at one with a with roof, the panoramic glass roof will blend in and match the car better.

We also hear there will be a real headliner available next year (not just a mesh roller screen) for those in hot climates who don't want any light to come into the cabin from the roof.
Sounds good to me!

I love the way the tinted glass looks against the white, but this new idea is pretty cool.

Thank god for this change to the sunscreen. I'm in florida and my fear, with my 05 MCS on order was that I would need to use sunscreen while in the car. I was gonna fashion a graphic to cover that great looking skyroof. Now I wont need to! Yea! Its party time...Well it will be around the middle of Aug.

cooperflags.com has a fine product that is even removable.. it's amatchgin white "flag" for the sunroof, that you can get slightly perforated to still let soem light thru. I liek it open personally, I'd rather just have a roll screen that didn't have holes in it. make it solid adn make put the mini logo on it. I'd prefer that over frosted glass.

Hum....not sure I personally would like the frosted glass. I like looking up (as a passenger of course) and seeing what's out there thru clear glass. But a more solid material sliding shade would be nice....

Chow!

A solid slider would be nice, but ONLY in addition to the screen. I live in Colorado and because of the high elevation we also have a very high UV index no matter what time of year. When I have my sunroof open I NEED that screen in a bad way if I don't want to get fried like bacon.

You don't have to worry about sunscreen when the sunroof is closed, even in the earlier models. The sunroof glass filters out virtually all of the UV so there is no risk of sunburn or skin damage.

Other new sunroof options

I read in one of the many options for 2005 reports that there will be "transparent" roof decals in 2005, like the Union Jack and American flag, that will go on Sunroof models. I have been told that up until now, these have only been available on solid roof models. Perhaps that "white" sunroof is just a white decal?

I think its great. When I hear these rumors and people poo-poo them I just lean back and think that Mini has not made a bad choice with the MC or MCS. I have faith in them to make it better. With the exception of heavy wheels I think they have produced a near perfect car.
