R50/53 Lowering springs . Questions
Lowering springs . Questions
I'm going to be putting on a set of 17 inch wheels with the normal 42 offset . I'd like my car to set a lil lower to eliminate some wheel/ fender gap . If I go with lowering springs , is there any thing else I need to lower it properly . Will it effect my alignment or keep me from getting a proper alignment ?
My car is a 05 r50
Thanks

I looked into doing the lowering springs on my JCW a year or so ago, and I decided against it. One thing that you are going to also need is a set of adjustable camber links for the rear to be able to get the correct camber after you lower it. Make sure you get the car aligned after you lower it. Also, what shocks are you running? I've heard that if you don't have a good set of shocks on your car, you car run into issue of bottom the suspension out all the time.
unless you are going to seriosly drop it, dont do it with springs. even with a 1.5" drop i doubt your alignment is going to change much.
i am running 17x7.5 with 215/45/17 tire. my tires rub a bit but nothing crazy only when the shock bottoms out. i am also running koni yellows with swift springs. now they dont drop much 3/4'' in front and 1/2'' in the rear. but i bought them for other reasons. not to get lowered thats just a little cherry on the cake.

I'm not looking to have my tires up inside the wheel well . I just want to have a lil less wheels gap. I'm not looking to slam my car . I'm running a 16 wheel now and I'm hoping the 17s will fill in the wheel well better then I'll see about the springs .
I just installed a new set of Monroe shocks all around .
What would be the best way to lower it just a half inch or so?

swift springs i think they might be the smallest drop out of all the springs. and they give the car a nice ride and support through the corners. the higher rear spring rate also helps the car rotate a bit more but not much

nope, it takes quit a bit of lowering to affect camber and other aspects of your tires orientation. probably 1.5 to 2.5 is where you see big camber changes. and you need adjustable control arms and camber plates
Edit: also you need to take in account the angle or the control arms as well when you lower a car to much(im talking like 1.5-4 inches) the the control arms will point up and that ruins your suspension geometry big time and ruins how well a car handles
