10,192mi Oil Analysis

This is my second UOA for this motor. Instead of Mobil 1 Synthetic, I used NAPA Synthetic 5w30. For reference, the first UOA with Mobil 1 5w30 is in the column to the right of "Unit/Location Averages" in the report... it's also posted here.

Anyhow, the main differences from the last UOA with Mobil 1 5w30...

1. More hiway driving (70% vs 50% for the last UOA).
2. Shorter time in use (20 months vs 32 months).
3. More use in colder temps and early morning cold-starts.
4. MPG went up... due to more hiway driving.

Filtration: Air filter is unchanged, 20,000 miles old at the time of this sample. Oil filter is new. Both made by Wix.

Edit: motor is stock.

Very interesting. The data rather makes a nonsense of changing oil before 10,000 miles, doesn't it?

What's with the high sodium levels? I have no idea if this is even good or bad, but the number jumped out at me.

Some oil brands use Sodium as an additive (corrosion inhibitor). NAPA Synthetic, when new, has about 300 PPM. Elevated levels of Sodium together with Potassium usually indicate an antifreeze intrusion/leak... i.e. head gasket, oil cooler.

Mobil 1 might have started thickening. That batch was in the motor for 32 months... 4 months shy of 3 years. However, it didn't affect wear numbers and TBN was still pretty good at 3.6.
