Mystery Part

I found this on the floor under the passenger side.

I don't remember taking it off of anything, but I guess I could have bumped it or knocked it loose accidentally.

Here's what I've done. Put the car on jack stands. Removed Alta CAI and computer. Loosened fuse box. Changed GearBox Mount. Put car into maintenance mode. Removed radiator. Removed fan shroud.

Just now I climbed under and changed the lower passenger side motor mount,.. I found this in the ground. Looks like a plastic cap of some sort.

Inside it says

MINI
6 757 038.3
GB
>PP<

Any idea where it goes?

Thanks

When you put the car into service mode, after removing the front bumper crush tunes from the sub frame, those go in the end of the sub frame.

I'll try to find a picture...

In this picture you can see that plastic plug in the end of the sub frame.

I think the only reason they put these in is prevent any possible whistle from air going into the subframe.

That makes sense. Turns out I only have one anyway. Previous owner must have misplaced the driverside one. I put the passenger one back before I installed the crush tube.

Thanks Way, it makes me feel more comfortable understanding it's purpose, I know it's no biggie that I'm missing one.

Bump from the dead...

Does anyone know how to find a replacement for these? The part number gives me nothing.

Mine are missing and I really don't like missing parts. I'll be looking for the part numbers and/or a replacement source.

Stinch and M3NTAL, check with Way Motor Works, he often parts out and well could be able to put his hands on those for you. Never hurts to ask.

Could not find that part number, It might be used just for factory assembly.

Thank you, order is in. I'm not taking my car apart to check, I was wondering if it is possible for those pieces to get stuck inside the crash tube when it is removed. I'll know next time but at least I'll have them in case they are not there.

Funny you should post to this thread today. Had my crush tubes out for other work this weekend and checked the tubes for the caps; not there. The ones from WMW went in. Rides better now

I wonder if these are really for the factory workers to ease and speed up installation. A centering device if you will. We had my son's car in service mode several times and they were not there.
