Hi -I did a search but couldn't find anything.

Yesterday I took off my CAI so I could install a Powerflex Gearbox Mount.

I can see the shift linkage, and thought it might be a good idea to push the boots back and lube them (if they're supposed to be lubed)

Not sure if a heavy grease would be good, or would that only cause dirt to stick on there and gum it up?

I have a can of spray chain lube, made by liquid wrench I think. It sprays on as a liquid to get into small crevasses, then it dries to a white waxy looking stuff that doesn't seem "too" sticky.

Should I try that? Buy something else to lube it with? Or just leave it be?

I would lube them....just look at what is there...imo a thicker lube like grease more ght be better...
My "local" Indy mini shop has said (especially with winter comming) folks are sometimes amazed at the difference in how shifting feels after they are lubed....guess the lube you are suggesting (kinda like a stuff called LPS3) dries to a wax like consistency would work... I would just stsyvaway from think "oil in a can" stuff...it will drip/dry...leaving a clean, unprotected surface since it will dislove thicker oils....

 

Thanks Zippy. I'm glad I asked, I understand what you mean about the thin solvent types of lubricants. I'd have to redo it every other day, LOL.

I hadn't thought about with winter coming and all. I think I'm going to change my tranny fluid too, with the Powerflex and all it should shift super smooth -it wasn't even bad before.
