FIRST POST! Asking for Answers Please

Hi, I have: 2006, Base Cooper, Hatchback, R50 (I think), manufactured in APRIL 2006.

The car did not come with the owner's manual, or, a spare key, or, the wheel lock key. Every site I look at offers lugs and key for 2006's manufactured from JULY 2006. I can't find anything earlier.

Any ideas where to find the lock key for my model? How much usually for a spare key to be made? And, a site where I can buy a legit owner's manual.

Oh yeah, my windshield washer stem blinks like it's Christmas. I've filled the tank up til it runs over and the damn thing still blinks, pump runs and no water on the windshield. MAN!

Dealer for keys....
ONLY option due to antitheft system in 99% of cases...
Sounds like the float/level sensor is bad/stuck...you fill BOTH tanks? There are 2...one on each side in most gen1 (r50/53/52)Cars....

Thank You, ZippyNH. I was afraid I'd have to go to the Dealer re: the door key. Any ideas about the wheel lock key? Any sites you can recommend? And nope, I only have one tank on the right passenger side. Just one.

Ok did you recently buy the car and if so where from, some of the more reputable dealers, will make sure that you have two keys and a manual.

The manual is also available online at Mini in PDF format and can be downloaded.

I bought my car at CarMax, they provide you with two Keys and a Manual, I ended up buying a Manual from Amazon and they re-reimbursed me.

If you bought it private, ask the seller if they have the other Keys? if they do not now then maybe they can find them/it.

As to the keys, well if you have to get one, then dealer is best, but there are people that can program a key that are not the dealer, either way its not cheap!

As to the Window washer, if you fill it and its over flowing, is the light flashing right away it you start the car? If so then I am at a loss, if not maybe the line of the tank is damaged and its leaking out.

The second tank would be for the headlamps washers if equipped.

I'm not sure where you can get the wheel lock key, a tire shop may have one, otherwise I think that you will have to buy a new set.

A replacement ignition key is pricey, 250 I think for a remote key and less than 100 for a non remote key, the are recharged every time by the ignition, also I think that you can download the owners manual.

For a lug key...find the lug key maker....then order...
So shops can get them off, but will usually destroy them....

For lug keys...
If gorilla... They have a website...
If OEM..(many dealers gave you a free set)...ask a nice *** if it looks like a OEM when you order the key...they might have a few to try...maybe sell you a replacement...
But many company's make lug/bolts keys...each is unique...on a r50...
Look in the glove compartment, trunk, and around the spare... They key might be hidden.

Mines an 02 r53 and only has 1 tank. The funny thing is that my rear washer fluid doesn't work but I hear the motor turn on and can hear something like pressure in the lines above my headliner

Most good tire shops or shops in general do have sockets that will take off key lock lugs.. I got a set myself.. they do work good.. Personally I never cared much for locked lugs..

You will need proof of ownership when you order the keys..Usually title or registration.....most dealers let you do this by fax...but call around..prices do vary but quite a bit!!

If you have garden variety OEM wheels on you R50 they're pretty much theft-proof without any kind of lock. We had a flat on my wife's "McGard" equipped car and couldn't find the lug wrench insert, this will take them off.

Here is the paper main manual for your April of 2006 production :

Owner's handbook R50, R52, R53 09/2005 to 09/2006 English

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/01410159801/

If you need any others I can look them up.

And for the wheel lock there are two different version , most people don't know about the multiple tooth version ( which the key can be found seperatly ). The year split in the lock were 7/2006 when they changed the size of the bolts.

For MINIs up to 7/2006

Wheel Lock Set W/ Lug Key (M12x 1.5) Multiple tooth , which based on the key code a new adapter can be found.

&

Wheel Lock Set W/ Lug Key (M12x 1.5)

I could not find the key itself for those types.

-------------------------

For MINIs up from 7/2006

Wheel Lock Set W/ Lug Key (M14x1.25) . which based on the key code a new adapter can be found.

&

Wheel Lock Set W/ Lug Key (M14x1.25)

I could not find the key by itself for those types.

If you need to take off the flower pedal type, you might be able to get them off lug nut removals. I would check the interior of your MINI again for the wheel lock keys , might be in the trunk tool set ( under the carpet section ), center armrest, or door storage area.

Good luck.

Thanks and hop that helps.

Yes, I ended up buying my key from Mini dealer here in town after emailing them for price (was $160). The key itself will start the car but you will need to program it for the remote part. The directions are here on the site or you can pay the dealer to do it.
