i was wondering what things i should know about getting a new supercharger. is it better to get a rebuild one or brand new or used. when doing this job what other parts are needed. and is it worth upgrading the superchager?
thank you

Rebuilt worked for me. I suggest Way or Stiegemeier.

Ditto, rebuilt is your least expensive & most hassle free option.

Then pick....
Way and a few others do exchanges to get you on the road faster if you need your car, steigimer rebuilds YOUR unit as you wait....
Mini listed new and remanufactured for within $100 of each other.... Difference was the rebuilt was same/next day, new was 3 or 4 days shipping (at on point was only stocked in Germany)....

Depends on how long you're keeping the car, and what you do with it. Rebuilt if you plan on selling within 50,000 miles and it's a daily driver, new, (if you can find one), if you're planning on keeping it forever or you hit the track . Rebuilds aren't as good as a new SC, unless you get lucky, there's no way to get around it--it has to do with part tolerances. I'd take a lightly used over a rebuilt to be honest.

There are aftermarket SC's if you're after performance, but they get pricey, and they haven't been trouble free.

Actually the only thing about the rebuilt units that comes into question is how long will it really last, all of the components that go into the rebuilding are just fine, but the basic rebuild process doesn't involve a new case, so you're basiclly left wondering about actual case wear & how long until it gets to the point that there's simply too much.

But, most people have been more than satisfied with them, thing is, there's just not much data since most people with a rebuilt unit just haven't put the miles on them yet to come up with some kind of answer to the question of how long a case is really good for.

(it's not like an engine rebuild where you could go .010 over in bore & piston size & figure it's like new again.)

When they are built at the factory, they check part tolerances, so that everything is optimal, and they have an number of pieces to choose from--but the parts are new to begin with, so even then there is a better chance tolerances will be fine. When they are rebuilt, if a part needs to be replaced, it comes out of a relatively small bin--there isn't as much to chose from, and tolerances have a higher chance of being off, especially if they're using used parts--so it's hit or miss. It should work, but is at good as a new SC out of the factory? No. Is it as good as a slightly used SC? No.

....and there are some crappy rebuilders around...
One place in OLD TOWN (I think) Florida comes to mind...
Does most of their sales on e-bay....
Cheap rebuilds, good warrenty, high failure rate.....
Know one guy who lost TWO units from them on another board...long thread...he Ended up with tons of downtime...ended up getting a unit from waymotorworks.....

Zippy is right, you get what you pay for--if you go with a rebuild, just make sure you're going with someone with a good reputation AND a good warranty, just in case. It's really not a place to cut corners and try and find the lowest priced option. Way, or anyone who does high-volume eaton rebuilds would be what I'd look for in a rebuild, but I'd rather get a new one, and sell the old one to someone as a core, or find a low miles used one, but my car is on the track a bit. Just depends on what you use the car for.

Who and how rebuilds the supercharger is very important. My recommendation is Way Motor Works in Atlanta. They often have 2 or 3 rebuilt units on the shelf.
