No, it wasn't on a public road. This co-worker has been bugging me for a couple of months to race. I couldn't take it any longer. He got me off the line because he's the one who said GO, but I soon passed him and I thought that was that. Now he just showed me on some web site that his car is faster than mine. Geese, what does it take. My MCS will beat his IS300 in ANY type of race, except on the computer.

I'm not sure what "website" your friend was referring to as showing an IS300 being faster, but here are some real numbers for you:

IS300 AT (most popular, 5 speed might be *slightly* faster):

0-60mph: 7.1s
60-0mph: 113ft.
quarter: 15.3s @ 92mph
skidpad: .83g

MINI Cooper S:

0-60mph: 6.9s
60-0mph: 122ft.
quarter: 15.4s @ 92mph
skidpad: .86g

So, if anything, the IS300 is (slightly) slower off the line, a bit better on braking, and worse handling. By any measure, the cars are equal enough that any contest between the two would be entirely about driver skill. I'd say you're right, a MINI (properly driven) should win every time in everything but a drag race (and even then would only be beat by the IS300's slightly higher top speed of 143mph). A JCW/Pulley'ed MINI should give the IS300 a THOROUGH schooling each and every time, regardless of driver

As a former IS300 owner, I will state that the MCS will stomp a stock (or slightly modded) IS300. HOWEVER, do not mess with one that has been turbo'ed! You will get slapped six ways a sunday. There are a lot of turbo'ed IS's on the roads today. Many of which are well over 500hp. 380hp+ is average... a few are over 700hp!

I seriously considered an IS300 for this very reason; it was, in fact, my second choice to my MC (strange I didn't get an MCS.... but don't think I'm not already planning an upgrade sometime in the future). The real selling factor (besides the fact that I could only afford a 2002 IS300 for what I paid for my brand new MC) was the ABYSMAL (17mpg city EPA, which really means 15 or less) gas mileage on PREMIUM no less.

The IS300 is fairly dominant in certain SCCA Solo II classes... I know there's one especially fast one (or maybe it's the driver!) that makes Grassroots Motorsports news quite a bit...

I beat my mailman on a public road today. We were neck and neck from the launch, but as soon as I shifted into second gear, he gave up and stopped at the first mailbox we came to
