? re: radiator replacement

Replaced the radiator in my 2004 MCS today. Didn't realize that I will need to replace the foam rubber pieces that surround the radiator. Are they available from the dealer?

Also, how do I drain my engine of all existing coolant before adding the new? Obviously simply removing the lower radiator hose is not enough.

Yes, the dealer will have the foam rubber pieces. Alternatively, you can find the part number for these pieces.
My factory manual says that removing the lower radiator hose is sufficient enough for draining the coolant. You are correct that it won't drain 100% of it but it's apparently good enough.

Here is the foam that goes around the radiator and the part numbers. For the Cooper S. I have seen these deteriorate and fall off over time some people don't even know they are missing them. They are peel and stick.

#2 in the diagram

Upper Foam Seal Part # 17107515479

Thanks. However, the side ones do not appear on any diagram; it appears that they are considered an inseparable part of the plastic modular front end (MFE) into which the radiator and fan assembly are mounted; correct?

Thanks Jab,

They side ones I believe stick to the core support, thus on a different diagram. I have them here, thought you just needed the top and bottom. There on another diagram. Here is a shot of the front core support with the bumper removed from the Girls guide to front bumper thread.

You can see the foam on the side and top, bottom one is hidden in the picture.

Here you go : In the diagram #3

Gasket Front Panel Seal - Right Part # 51717042998

Gasket Front Panel Seal - Left Part # 51717042997

Thanks; they are for the R53, correct? For some reason they didn't show up on my Realoem diagrams.

Your welcome again.

Yea, they are for the R53 they are hidden in other diagrams, kind of hard to find. But I can find them for you.

Thanks
