Fuel Pump Regulator and Battery Related Issue
New to Forum. Thanks. Had AAA come out to change a battery. The guy who did it did not install the energy saver underneath the dash before changing the battery.
The battery tech swapped out the battery and then the car doesn't start at all. It cranks but does not start.
Towed to mini dealer and they tell me the fuel pump regulator need replacement.
Is this just a coincidence or could not connecting the energy saver or battery swap out cause some sort of electrical issue.
After the battery swap-out, the battery tech kept stomping on the gas pedal like it was an old carb style.
Any feedback is welcome.
Thanks
Grant

Energy saver keeps data and is underneath xash. Aaa kept battery. Car started with jumper cables. Battery got changed and then would crank but not start. Dealer says fuel pump regulator burned out
QUOTE=crazyworld;3769365]First off, I have to ask.... what is an 'energy saver'?
Second, and more importantly, did your engine crank BEFORE the battery swap? Still have the old battery or AAA took that?[/QUOTE]

Well if you need a new regulator you need a new regulator. On the other hand, might you be able to get something back from AAA, possibly. I mean, they guy jumped your car and it started up no problem, then changed your battery and it wouldn't start. I think it's very possible he could have shorted the system. All you have to do is touch that positive terminal once anywhere to the grounded body. Proving it, may be a little more difficult but not unreasonable.

Fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. I'm guessing you are talking about the fuel pump. I have yet to see one go bad from swapping a battery in a r50/53. Impossible - no. Unlikely to be related. How many miles on car, how many years did it sit with fuel in the tank, how often do you let the fuel light come on. All those are more likely to kill the pump, especially the last one. Fuel In the tank is a "coolant" for the fuel pump. Low fuel and the pum p isbt beibg cooled, overheating the pump and eventually killing it.

Thanks for replies. 81,000 miles on car. Serviced per manual. Tank does not go below 1/4 tank and always filled up when refueling. It is the fuel pump that went. Just too coincidental. I did not watch the battery tech replace the battery although I did see the new battery go in. So, not sure if he touched the positive and caused a short.
