Coolant Issues.

Greetings,

I got home and after i parked the car i heard something leaking, so i look under the car and see a pool of liquid, and a stream of some liqid pouring out under the car,
The coolant was leaking at the cap very badly.

this is what came out!!

i tried to flush as much of that out as i could.

got a new cap from the dealership, added coolant/antifreeze mxe and everything was good, no leaks.

can anyone tell me why the coolant was that colour when it came out?

My only thought might be that it is old coolant.

Rust....
Get it flushed asap imo.
Looks like it has been neglected for a long time. Remember ...your mini has an IRON BLOCK...COOLANT IS 50% WATER.....regular mx is needed.

Yikes,
Looks like rust, was there any small particles that were in the coolant? Flush it and get all of that out. Replace with MINI coolant.

The MINI Coolant from the factory should be a Blueish color unless someone put something else in there.

Mix 50/50 with distilled water.

Thanks

No particles or any debris, took about 3 flushes to get all that brown-ish coolant out of the system, I just took a syringe today and pulled up some of the coolant/anti-freeze from the tank, it all looks good, but the expansion tank is discoloured so the coolant looks a little dirty when looking straight down into the tank. Would the old coolant have caused severe damage? And is there any way to check for damage?

Have you REMOVED THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE?
Simply removing fluid from the tank is inadequate.....that is just the expansion volume/reserve.
The block ....heater core...and Rad must be flushed.
The thermostat is usually removed....and water pumped into the motor...from a hose...same for the heater core.....
Then the system is closed up ...refilled. cleaning solutions are often used inconjunction with the flush.....not sure what 3 flushes means....you connect a hose....and have water flow till it is done....aka...clean..

PS old coolant...if debris gladden could cause many issues...
From water pump vane wear....plugged thermostats....plugged heater core ...plugged radiator....lowered cooling system capicity...overheating...and corrosion...even block failure dude to rust....but the headgasket usually goes from corrosion first ....

Mine had a rust tinge to it when I bought it. I drained from the lower radiator hose and then removed the expansion tank and cleaned it out. I only drained and filled once since my car is an '06 and I'm planning on replacing the radiator and water pump next summer anyway.
