I signed the petition even though I am not from California and am lucky enough to live in a no-front-plate-state

Not only do I think front plates make a MINI look ugly, I also think it would be great to no longer read posts about Californians whining about getting tickets for not complying with their state laws

Really, the front plate ticket thing is driven by the installation of red light cameras. Which is driven by cities trying to make up revenue no longer received from the state. Which is caused by... lol... ok, I'll stop.

But since its a revenue thing, I doubt we'll get the ok to go front plate-less. But I'll sign the petition just the same.

You caught me YuccaPatrol! I am a scofflaw!

I once drove at 56 in a 55 zone and I once smoked dope, but I didn't inhale (yeah, right).

Better question is: How much money could the state SAVE be not making the second plate? Could make up for all those red light/speeding cameras. Here in WA, Lakewood has publically admited that the speed cameras cost them more to operate than they bring in.

I really do hope that California can get rid of the front plates. If I lived there, I wouldn't install one and would be prepared to pay the ticket over and over again if it came down to it.

Good luck California and thanks for tolerating a little good natured joke about front plate whiners. Believe me, I would be one of the loudest whiners if I was in your situation

I signed the petition. Now I’m wondering if this put me on some kinda scofflaw list so they can track me down and give me a ticket; could just be my BIG gov. conspiracy thinking talking here. Anyway don’t think this has much hope of passing as it would not add any revnew, would take away the ability of the gov. to do something they can do now (write tickets) another revenue thing and wouldn’t benefit them in anyway. But we’ll see….

I just got a $25 ticket for no front plate while parked at a meter (with plenty of time left on it) in Los Angeles.
I can't believe meter maids can issue tickets for that!

CA has been a front plate state for years - well before red light cameras, and other photo based ticketry. That said (shhh!) I haven't had a front plate installed in any car since my first in 1981, so at least in NorCal it hasn't been much of an issue.
That said - where's that petition?!

See that's the tact I think would be the most effective, especially with all the states crying poverty. They could cut license plate costs in half by abolishing the front plate.

As for Lakewood WA, I think they are in the minority. Washington DC and the Virginia suburbs that use the red light cameras make a mint off of them...

Front plates are the law here in Iowa. I too was a scufflaw until my second warning. I was pulled over red lights flashing and the seemingly angry cop barked "I'm officer ___ . Let me see your license, proof of insurance, and registration. I feared once again I'd been speeding and this time in a residential area. As I was fishing them out he even asked where I was going. Since he was sounding so serious I braced and asked what I'd done. When he said, "someone forgot to put on their front plate" I laughed before I could think not to. He seemed to be making such a high crime out of a small thing.

Anyway, I pulled it together and swore I'd put it on as soon as I got home. After giving me the warning ticket he asked how I liked my Mini. I gave my best good citizen "great but it's too easy to speed" line. He then laughed, said it shows we are both getting old and walked off.

But I HATE having to have a front plate. Good luck you folks in California. Your trend tend to eventually hit the midwest.

This probably belongs in the California regional area, but... We would be more effective by directly contacting members of the Transportation Committee. Here is a link to the committee website with all of the standing members. These are the people you want to contact, along with your own senators.
