Strut recommendations

2002 Cooper (base), 150k miles

First post here, so thanks in advance for taking the time to read. I'll be doing some work on my cooper in the next few weeks - front strut mounts have failed. I plan on replacing the struts while I'm at it because I'm still on the original suspension.

Question is, anyone have any recommendations on strut brands? I have the factory (not sport) suspension, so I'm looking for something of that ilk. I've been thinking Sachs, I've heard those are near oem quality. Also, should i consider new springs? Ride height seems right still.

Thoughts?

Lots of research on this already. Most recd is Koni yellow FSDs. I think they run about $500 or so for a full set. Otherwise, your looking at coil overs, which are gonna be $1k+

+1 for the Koni FSD's.
Put them on my '04 MCS and am very happy.
Check with WayMotorWorks for great pricing and service.

Hes looking for OEM quality -- if you are just replacing them and not using the car for any kind of track or other -- I have good things to say about the Bilstein Touring -- they are inexpensive about $320 for the set of 4 and handle just like stock did.

Since you are on original 150k miles struts -- I am sure you are experiencing a ton of bounciness and other related issues. Having new struts is going to smooth out the ride A TON.

Till the end of the month the Konis are on super sale so it's hard to beat the price and performance of the FSD's

I've had great luck and the ride is good with them.

I just purchased a set of the Bilstein Touring - $260 for my '06 at shockwarehouse.com. Won't be here until next week though so will fix some other stuff first.

There are usually more than a few lower-mileage stock struts around as folks upgrade, I'll sell you mine cheap (35kmiles F&R at $95 + shipping from Pittsburgh, they still control the ride quite well) as I changed to the Yellows.

Stay away from anything Monroe, every time I've replaced struts (other cars) with Monroe the ride was bouncier and worse AFTER the change than it was with the old struts! To be fair, I don't even know if Monroe makes a strut for Minis!
