I'm hearing this on my new S. Seems to be wind-related, and is really high-frequency (kind of like a dentist drill ). I think it's coming from the top of the car, but not exactly sure. I hear it when the sunroof is closed and open.

Anyone experience this? Fixes?

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the upper trim around the windshield. The week after my windshield was replaced from a stress crack the upper rubber strip came out going about 80. I could hear a whistle and then more wind noise coming in. A little after than the strip was smacking the roof of the car.

Does the whistle change pitch or amplitude with different sunroof positions?

Not that I can tell. Seems a bit louder if I crack the sunroof up in the rear, but othewise identical. I haven't checked with the sunroof open from the front - this is happening at 80mph and I find the wind noise with the roof open way too loud over 50mph.

There is a thread on this linking the sound to the A/C Compressor. I have the same noise. I hear mine about the same speed when the A/C is on. Once I shut it off, the noise stops. There was some discussion that it denotes a faulty compressor which was being replaced under warranty. Of course, the sound has yet to be duplicated while at the dealer.

It's the recirc setting. If your recirc light is on, you may hear this whistle at higher speeds, even if you're not running the fan or the AC Don't know if all MINI's do this, but mine sure does. Took me a while to find the source-drove me crazy 'till I did.

Huh, interesting. I'll have to check this out. Almost positive my recirc is off, though. I have yet to hit that button in this car. Thanks for the lead!
