It will work. Your speedo may bw slightly off, because the tires are a little thinner than the stock 17" wheels giving you a slightly smaller wheel diameter. You have 205/40/17 whereas the factory tires are 205/45/17.

What about something like weight load? I think I read they are not rated for that as they should be?

Does anyone know if having a lower load rating than recommended is bad? and what are the consequences

The 205/45-17 is standard for the MCS and is based on the empty and loaded weights of the vehicle when used.
By switching to 205/40-17 which has a lower profile and smaller diameter you get a smaller tire which has a lower load rating.

So the 205/40-17 will support the axle weight of the MCS more or less with one person or two light ones. If you only have one commuter or one/two autocrosser then it is OK for limited use.

If we look at a common tire like the Yokohama AVS ES100
205/40WR17 84W Max Load 1102lbs. Max pressure 50psi Outer tire diameter 23.5"
205/45WR17 88W Max Load 1235lbs. Max pressure 50psi Outer tire diameter 24.3"

So the 40 series tire is 0.8" diameter smaller with 532 pounds less carrying capacity.

From tirerack-
Maximum Load

A tire's maximum load is the most weight the tire is designed to carry. Since a tire's load carrying capacity is related to the tire's size and how much inflation pressure is actually used, maximum loads are rated with the tire inflated to an industry assigned inflation pressure.

Additionally, while a tire's maximum load is the most weight the tire is designed to carry, its load carrying capacity at lower inflation pressures is proportional to how much inflation pressure is used.
---------------------

Load would be less for a tire not fully inflated. So an underinflated 205/40 would further be under a safe load capacity.

This arguement carries also to the 215/45-17 87W vs 215/40-17 83W (even lower load capacity than 205/40-17).

Wow, excellent answer. It is usually just me @ 160lbs in the car and sometimes my g/f at an additional.. wait.. better not give that number ... but not a lot. So i guess I'd be ok. When the tread wears I will be sure to get 205/45/17

For parada spec-2's the load weight is the same for 205/40/17 and 205/45/17 according to tire rack...

So i guess it doesn't matter - both are 1102 and teh GVW in the front is about 1900

so if i maintain the tire pressure... and i dont eat too much, and neither does she...

2204-1900 = 304

And in the rear the GVW is like 1650 or something..

This just in...

the RS-A's from the sports package (all-season) ALSO have a 1102lb. load capacity

but they also have .8" bigger diameter.
