Daignostic port not communicating..

Hi guys.. have searched and found a couple of pointers.. (fuses, ecu connectors etc) and have come up dry

2003 Cooper S.. failed emissions inspection cause the OBDII port wouldn't communicate..

Checked/ tested (with a BUS fuse tester) all fuses in both fuse boxes and all are good..

Checked the ECU connectors (both) to see if there were any bent pins and there aren't..

Battery hadn't been disconnected or gone dead in at least a year.. so assuming "monitors" were set.. haven't hooked up my scanner to verify

Need to get it inspected and this won't let me.. any help will be greatly appreciated.

pic of the lil guy!

will do a more formal intro soon

Will physically pull them and look at them, but the fuse tester passed those 2.

I've had this a couple of times. Here's what I did: disconnect the battery and wait a few seconds. Then touch the 2 cables together. Reconnect and retry your OBD communications. Good luck!

This may seem obvious, but don't short the battery terminals in any way. Just touch the cables to each other to completely discharge the system. This "hard reset" MAY just clear up your problem.

ECSTuning made a good point in another post: older code readers may have a problem reading some newer cars. My Actron can read my '03 Mini, but not my '06 Mazda.

This was the state OBD2 connector for the SMOG/ Emissions test that wouldn't connect

Did the battery-cable trick prove unsuccessful?

Haha sorry.. replaced the power steering pump today and did the "hold the terminals together " trick when I disconnected the battery.. when I powered everything back up BINGO diag port works again.. funny the tire light was on and the triangle were too. (Rear tires were down to 25 lbs)

Bet they were sposed to be on before but cause of whatever glitch it had they weren't.
Than again for the help and tips!
