Hi. I ordered a BRG MCS a few weeks ago. I went with the silver dash cause I thought it looked cool in the dealership. But I have read some negative things about it not holding up well. Can I get some input on this? Should I try to switch to Patina if I still have time?

Thanks!

I have the silver dash and it is holding up well. The silver parts that have not held up well were the door tubes and I think the down tubes that are not clear coated (but should be). They changed the paint in early 03’ and I have not heard of as many problems. Mine look the same as they did when I got them in June 03. I would say if it is the color you want then go for it. If you go through the gallery, I bet you will see a BRG in every dash somewhere in there. Good luck.

Get Anthracite and avoid Alloy patina and Silver trims like the plague.

7 months, 6,800 miles and my Anthracite interior trim still looks brand new. Can't say the same experience for the silver trim in my '02 Cooper CVT, which was fixed under warranty last year.

Anthracite should be your only choice.

My silver dash still looks perfect after a year and a half. The door trim pieces are good, except for the parts that are east to grab to shut the door. I also got the magnesium casings, which could stand a washing but still look good......Bruce

Bruce.. what are the magnesium casings? (I have no clue what they are or where they go... no idea).

Just curious.

In the silver trim, the problem is not the dash, because it has a thick coat of lacquer. The problem is the unlacquered bits like the door pulls and the dashboard down legs, which are the same junk in both silver and allow patina trims....they scratch and peel just by looking at them. A rep from MINI admitted to me that Silver factory was essentially junk (Perhaps they have since changed the quality of the paint used).

Anthracite is of a different and much higher quality plane than the other 2 interior trims.

Magnesium door panels used to be an option (Very light silver color) on the 2002-2003 MCS. They were discontinued for the '04 Model year, so right now your only option is black door panels.

I wanted the anthracite dash because of what I read on this site, too, but my MA found me the exact car I wanted (only with silver dash) already built and waiting to be put on the boat. I grabbed it, and guess what? That silver dash is so beautiful the way it glows I would not even want the anthracite if I could get it now. Can't say how it will hold up, since I just took delivery 2 weeks ago, but I can vouch for its incredible aesthetic appeal.

Silver trim is very nice, but I can't recommend it due to its poor quality and durability.

I have a BRG with cordoba beige leather and specifically requested the silver dash...despite all three MA's on the showroom floor telling me the anthracite looked better. Thankfully I stuck with my gut instinct and couldn't be happier. It's all a matter of personal taste- lookswise. It also sounds like they may have resolved the quality issues by now.
