BCM questions : )

If my BCM is bad should I get a used one or new? If I get a used one isn't there a good chance it could/will go out on me since this seems to be a fairly common problem? Lastly has anybody ever discected one of these to see if the problem can be fixed?

Thanks

You need to get a new one, as putting a used one in can cause many other problems with things not working, including keys, and coding info.

Consider getting yours repaired. It's much more cost effective and there's no hassle of coding / re-programming. I've used www.bba-reman.com for other modules in the past and I would highly recommend them. Ask them if they can take care of your BCM.

Josh that does not include the price for the Body Control Module. Typically, if the BCM has taken a dump, you can't fix it by re-coding it--you need to replace it and then re-code it. Look at private shops as good alternatives to the dealership--we don't charge a diagnostic fee and we'll code it for $85.

Helix when you say typically do you mean like what 90% of the time?

only reason I ask is the dealership said they would diagnose the problem to see if the bcm can even be "re-coded". i assume they would not charge me for re-coding if they told me that it needs to be recoded and then it does not work? then again...

Like 100%, for us at least. I've never seen a BCM malfunction get fixed by re-coding. They very well may have been, I've just not seen it.
