I love my 2004 MCS with 10,000 troublefree miles, but if this deal was around when I purchased my Cooper S I would have been very, very tempted. Found this ad in the local paper here is So Cal on Saturday. I just love that new Renesis Rotary powerplant. Smoooooooooooth.......

The "3 at this price" were probably stripped models and/or sold long before that ad ran.

The new RX8 has a big problem IMO...the car has virtually no low end torque from the get go....pretty dissapointing for a car with a rotary engine and a higher HP rating than the MINI.

Mazda is addressing the lack of low end torque problem. It is a very nice car overall and I prefer it to the Nissan 350Z.

But believe it or not, the MCS feels much faster than the RX-8 off the line. Actually be happy that you have a gorgeous PW/B MCS with 10K flawless miles and much better resale value than the Mazda.

My Ford/Madza dealer has about 7 RX-8s in stock, the cheapest one at about $26,000. To me there is no "stripped" model. Much like the MINI, everything you need is there in the basic model. I like it......but, I looked at and had a chance to buy one before I bought my MINI. Got the MINI and I'm still happy with my decision.

And my MINI isn't even an S.

And it's not like the car has any more room. I looked at them and they are tight. I love the suicide dorrs but, it's not like anyone is ever getting back there. I bet the people who own those cars open the door for cleaning more than anything else.

Having said that I love the rotory. I test drove a couple old school RX-7's in the late 80's and they were silky smooth. My rootmate had a '94 and it was fairly smooth. It was hard for that motor to be smooth because of all the boost.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get an rx-8 for that price. I've heard they are having trouble selling them, and that always means they are willing to cut you a deal to get them off the lot. My local Mazda dealer has a ton of the things sitting out front. I think they made a mistake not bringing a new rx-7 here.

That is a good deal! I remember when the old RX-7 cost just as much, if not more. I wonder about the longivity and reliability of the rotory engine. I still like the uniqueness of MINI.

You don't think a car dealer would line up three friends to sell to and THEN run an ad to suck you in do you?

I wouldn't trade my LY/B MCS for TWO of those. (Since Ford now owns them I wouldn't trade for three of them)

I probably would have gone for the PW/B had it been available in an S when I bought mine. Love that color.

I was surprised how big the back seat was on the Mazda, But I don't have to sit in the back of my MCS!

The Mazda takes some getting used to in looks IMHO, too.

The RX-8 is a very quick car! The rotary engine is a brilliant piece of engineering which is often under-appreciated. If you haven't driven a rotary, it's an interesting experience because of the seemingly effortless acceleration.

This would be a great time to dump an MCS, especially if you live in one of the areas of the country where people are still gladly paying thousands over MSRP.

You could probably sell an MCS, buy an RX-8 and pocket a fair amount of change.

That said, I'm not too crazy about the RX-8's styling, particularly the rear end... I agree they should have kept the RX-7 in production.

I don't think they are selling all that well. The car is only 6 months old and Mazda USA is discounting them thousands from MSRP. I love the Renesis motor, the nice manual tranny, Japanese quality and reliability, carbon fiber driveshaft, etc. The styling is not my cup of tea. The Mini blows it away!

I drove my friends new RX8 and didn't notice any problem with low end torque, it definitely is much quicker than my MCS from start, the rotary engine is a marvel of technology IMO, that said my MCS handles better especially after I got rid of the dreadful runflats and went to lighter 16" wheels and yokos......

The car I'm marveling at now is my wifes new G35 coupe. I laughed at her for not getting the stick, but the 5 speed automatic is incredibly slick, you just touch the stick to shift it, amazing technology.....and the car is incredibly quick, faster than the RX8 and it blows my MCS away like it is tied to a post...lol, but that said my MCS handles better, a little roll in the coupe which I'm sure could be corrected with different suspension set up, but the leather seats in the G35 are to die for compared to the cheap leather seats in my MCS......I recently drove to San Diego from Phoenix and begged her to let me take her coupe

So many great cars and more on the way

The main problem people are having with the RX-8 is a rotary-specific 'flooding' problem. Basically, if you shut the car off (or, god forbid, stall it) before getting the car to a certain temp, you run a serious risk of flooding the car. If you flood it, it requires a trip to the dealer.

Chet.

mazda should drop their rotary mumbo jumbo and put in a real V6 on that
platform. Save the rotary for the RX7 enthusiasts and turbocharge it for the
weekend drivers.

I rode in one the other day while in Houston. Pretty cool car if you're into that size. Reminds me of the trend Mustang was on before they started getting it smaller again. it is a LOT bigger than the last RX7, which was no small car.......cute though, nice instruments, nice lines to the body fenders.......a modern age 280Z kind of....
