There is tons of info. on this topic use the "search" option.

15%, 17% are the most common replacements, to find how they differ
let your fingers do the walking.

Congrats on the MINI - you chose a great vintage (R53), and I'm sure you'll enjoy the hell out of it.

You'll typically find the reduced pulleys in three sizes: 15%, 17%, or 19% reduction. It's my understanding that the smaller pulleys (19%) cause more heat and can put more stress on the supercharger, therefore potentially shortening its life.

I'm lucky enough to live near a seasoned, experienced independent MINI mechanic. When I was ready to upgrade mine, he recommended the 15%. His reasoning: it gives a good power boost, you can rev to the redline, any additional stress or wear on the SC is negligible.

There are a number of different vendors; I got my kit from Way Motor Works. They offer a package that includes the reduced pulley (you pick the size), a new SC belt, tensioner, and colder spark plugs. WMW is very respected among the MINIacs, so you could probably even ask them what the pros & cons are of each size.

My $0.02: in addition to the pulley, consider getting a cold air intake as well. You'll get a great sound, and your car will breathe better too. As with the pulley, there are many vendors but I chose DDMWorks and could not be happier.

Good luck, and let us know which way you go and how you like the end results.

This was being discussed yesterday as well as many other places. You can find a whole catalog of cool bits for your MCS here. Good luck and have fun with your new MINI.

Congratulations on your R53! The sound of the supercharger and CAI are intoxicating. My two cents, if its a daily driver and you need it to remain dependable go with the 15%.

+2 to what he said. I have the same package on my 03 MCS and it is, as Tony Tiger says, " GRRRRREAT!!!"
