I think it's cool.
It will be sealed so it marks how long you can go with out putting it up.

Interesting. I'm assuming this is done at the dealer. Can you imagine wat kind of crap the car would collect doing a transatlantic cruise witht he top down? Can you say SEAGUL?

Excellent marketing, but stupid idea IMHO that leaves the interior open to be damaged/vandalized.

Well that IS pretty clever! The more pics I see of the cabrio (such as on MotoringFile) the more I like it....and I'm not into rag-tops myself! I hope those new owners have a blast.....and true, I also hope they'll keep their cars safe, gimmic or no. Well, folks...our cars are evolving! We might as well enjoy it! I'm thrilled that MINIs continue to be winners in the marketplace. A sign of more good things to come, I hope.

Wouldn't people want their Motoring Advisors to go over the function of the roof and also want to inspect every inch of their car including the hidden roof?

I second that. Unless you have a garage at home, and then park it in a safe garage at work, and don't park your car anywhere else outside of that.
Cheers,

I would lose that game. The top would be put up at the time of delivery. I want to make sure everything works before I go.

The cars aren't shipped on an open air transport... Have you seen an ocean going car carrier? They're floating bricks... the cargo areas are enclosed...

If the tops are down, I'm guessing it's done at the dealer, with the seal put on AFTER the dealer demonstrates the proper operation of the roof... Think about it... it took at least 30 minutes for your MA to demonstrate the car and it's features to you at delivery, do you really think the top is going to be locked down so that they can't show off it's operation?

I'm sure it will have a heat shrink "tonneau" (sp?) cover.

MINI should have put the same sort of seal on our windshields so we could see who has gone the longest without a stress fracture
