Dude, I got an MCS for my graduation, and I am pretty sure, no VERY sure it was one of, if not THE greatest moment of my life. The thing is, I obsessed over a MINI from the moment I saw the first one, and my parents knew this, so they surprised me with an MCS the day before graduation. Its a high I will never forget. Sorry that yours won't be a surprise, but I would highly suggest getting an MCS (did you expect a different answer on this board?!). The RSX can just be another car out there. With a MINI, your part of a fellowship, like Harley-Davidson owners and Corvette Drivers. I look forward to driving my MCS everyday, mind you I have never driven an RSX. Good luck with the search for your car!

So... all you have to do is graduate? No minimum GPA? That's a pretty low bar.

MCS (with 17% pulley) will eat up a RSX type S in the quarter (from what I have experienced). It is a tuff choice though. I would get an MCS becuase of the handling and Fun everytime you drive one. :???:

Go out and buy a used MC. Take the money that's left and do some cool, cheap mods to it. Buy the parts off of this forum or EBay. Learn to drive it at autocrosses and the track.

Take the $10k, learn how to invest it in the stock market and in three or 4 years you will back asking if you should buy an NSX or Porsche.

You will have learned how to fish and you won't have to ask the folks to buy the insurance ever again.

Fat chance I'm ever going to see a penny out of my Social Security.

Oddly enough, my wife and/or myself are hoping to be going to B-School in the near future, which necessitates selling our Porsche. Looking for a relatively inexpensive car, we drove the MCS and the RSX-S. There really is no comparison. The RSX is a nice, basic, well-built car. The MINI ranks up with the Porsche in looks and handling

Needless to say, we ordered the MCS. If neither of us gets into school, we'll probably keep the P-Car, but it'll be a tough choice

The MINI just amazed me.

You're pretty lucky that the parents are buying you a car -- and the good thing is, you're doing your research =) I have a feeling that you'll end up with the MINI. Enjoy!

Dude... in what stock market do you have your money invested, cause I want to move mine there

I actually like the MC and then mod it scenario. Get a cool car and make it your own. Sounds good. Congrats on the present--is this high school graduation?

Actually, if you go out and buy September or October unleaded gasoline futures right now, it is almost always a 100% return between early May and the time you sell it on Friday before Labor Day. . . .

This year it might be 1000% return!

Man...I hate guys like you LOL I was lucky to get a 600$ rust bucket of my choice. Luckily I had a choice and got a 68 Triumph GT-6.

Get the MCS and try not to get spoiled

That's it, I'm going to my parents now and asking for a new car for graduating. They bought me an old Monte Carlo when they got me my first car. After that I was on my own. I had to work just to pay for my own insurance and gas, didn't have much money after that and repairs. Dude, get the MINI!

Stock o-60 times for the MCS vs RSX type S are virtually identical, with the MCS beating out the RSX hands-down in Handling, looks and "cool factor".
About a week ago I met a pretty well-known actor dude at a party I went to and the guy went crazy over my MCS, to the extent that he wanted to trade his Mercedes ML500 for it.
That kind of stuff just doesn't happen with an RSX.

Ok, I can most definitely give you some advice here.

I drive both of these cars frequently. I have an '04 Indi Blue MCS and my girlfriend has an Arctic Blue RSX Type S.

The MCS handles FAR better than the RSX. No contest. The Acura is only moderately faster than the MCS. The stereo absolutely stinks in the Type S. Harmon/Kardon in the MINI is soooo much better. The Acura does have the best stock seats I've ever seen. You cannot get half the options available on the MINI on the Acura.

I used to love to drive her car before I got mine. Now, if we're taking her car somewhere, she's driving it, not me. The MCS is just 1000 times more fun to drive.

She has had the RSX for a year now with no problems, so if you decide to get the RSX, you're getting a quality automobile, no question. No rattles at all in that car. I've had some rattles in my MCS, but nothing that wasn't fixable. Mechanically, I'd say the RSX and MINI are sound. Both cars would last you a long time.

The main down side to the RSX is that there is one at every other stop light. If you want to stand out go for the MCS. Chicks dig it.

Hope this helps.

I think you should get the RSX-S and mod it and learn what the hype
of sport compact cars are all about. After a while, you'll naturally graduate
those cars and get something like the MCS...and by that time, you'll have
more knowledge and know how to mod a car and how not to mod a car.

Not to be negative, BUT you should buy your OWN car along with the insurance. If you do that, Mom or Dad cannot say down the road, "if it were not for us", you would not have your car. My three sons have had to pay for their own cars along with the insurance. It makes them realize they have "earned" what they have. I guess I am from the "old school"..And after all, what do you have to look forward to, if Mommy and Daddy give you every thing? IMHO...Sorry

thanks all you guys for ur input. i really want to mcs, but i just had some doubts about getting it since i've seen everyone posting problem posts. well if u guys have any more inputs into this go right ahead. then more the merrier. one question though. How reliable is the mini? engine wise.......(moded) i'm kind of a speed demo. (transitioning from a mustang to a 4v to me seems like a big step) how are horsepower ratings? if u guys got any info on that stuff plz share it. later

Definitely get the MCS! The RSX is a pretty nice car, but doesn't really compare to the MINI when eveything adds up. Sure, the RSX has a higher BHP rating stock compared to the mini, but the powerband is so narrow you wouldn't really be able to use it too often. A went with a friend to get her RSX-S dyno'd and she was pretty dissappointed. Her car dyno'd at only 170 whp with most of the bolt-on mods. My car has the 15% pulley and ecu mod and it feels way faster than her car - due to the higher torque and more usuable powerband. All in all, you'll be a lot happier with the MINI, in my humble, bias opinion. GET THE MINI!!!

RSX = 4wd right?? Can't beat that with a stick even if it is a MINI. On the other hand, do you want to drive around in something that looks and feels practically like a Corolla? MC and spend your 8k in mods I say......you are a lucky dog though.....don't listen to those who say buy your own.....be grateful to have wonderful, affluent parents, appreciate their gift and enjoy......

The RSX is Front Wheel Drive.

Between the two, I'd take the MCS hands down. Better handling, better looks, better value retention, great community, etc.

You still haven't told us what you're graduating from. Whatever it is, I hope you're academic writing has better spelling and punctuation than your posts here do.

PKT RKT, you're thinking of a Subaru "WRX", the RSX Type S is an Acura. Front engine, front wheel drive.

I was thinking about buying an RSX when I was shoopping because I loved my Integra GS-R so much but I had to go with the MCS. The handling, man! It put a big grin on my face every time. I'd suggest you get the MINI.
