The RSX is actually fwd like the MINI. I have had my MCS for 2yrs now and I don't regret it a single day. I haven't had any real issues with the car, in fact the car has been extremely reliable. Just .02

go with the S.. and if you can wait grab a converatble.. My dad is a honda/acura dealer, you are goign to have the rest of your life to drive a car like the rsx, it mayeb be sporty but lets fce it its just an average car, it may haev performance but it still gets lost in a crowd... the mini will NEVER do that... seeing more than one jsut makes them all that more enticing... if your young and ahve the chance to pick up a car as fun, popular and sexy as the mini then lucky you... forget teh rsx unless your a true ricer and go for a car that is true style, will give you and the people aroudn you a bif ole smile on there face and hey even possibly laid...

Dammit! I do that about ten times a day. I think I need a new wiring harness. My brain's not getting through to my fingers.

>>PKT RKT, you're thinking of a Subaru "WRX", the RSX Type S is an Acura. Front engine, front wheel drive.

the RSX is only marginally faster than a stock MCS... that being said, for a lot less money on modding costs, you can make the mini faster than the RSX. spend the same amount of modding money on the RSX you won't get as much back.

the MCS is a lot more fun to drive, too.

RSX is lame, go ahead and get it if you like it so much.

it can't touch the MINI as far as style is conserned, it's just another ricer.

Congrats! njoy.

Neither is a bad choice. That said, I've had nothing but problems with my mini and the RSX has typical Honda reliability.

I used to own Hondas and Acuras....5 Accords, 1 '97 2.5TL and 1 '95 Integra LS 4 door sedan, 5-speed....

Great cars but they are booooooooring! I experienced some reliability issues with my "made in Japan" 2.5TL, prematurely worn brakes, leaky trunk, defective A/C fan, horrid shifting 4-speed "Grade Logic" auto tranny, somewhat lethargic 5 cyl in line 2.5L engine from the get go...gas thirsty.

Been there done that. Overall I think Hondas are great products but too overrrated and overhyped IMO. New cars from other manufacturers have already matched or surpassed the "goodness" of the Hondas. 10-15 years ago, having a Honda was like owning a car that others would copy/follow...today Honda is another copycat car company catering to the lowest common denominator and infested with silly SUV truck models (Element, Pilot, etc)

10 years ago, you could not find a single truck or SUV on a Honda dealership...Honda was a company known for producing radical, innovative and cool automobiles with superb engines...today Honda lives off that past reputation and has pretty much run of the mill products, with the exception of the S2000 roadster and the aging but still solid NSX.

My MINIs beat my old Honda's butts time and time again. No Honda or other Japanese car will ever match the handling of a true European motorcar and much less so a MINI.

My 2 MINIs have been extremely reliable, BTW.

Have you shopped for insurance?!?! You are young, and it will not be cheap for a performance type car. Just be aware of the costs of ownership beyond the initial purchase. You want to be able to drive it if you own it!

I found the MCS to be very inexpensive for insurance compared to many similar cars like the WRX and RSX. Did I mention it was the most fun car to drive...and I obviously bought one.....

Also keep in mind that you should be putting away $2K a year (more or less) into some type IRA, ROTH, Stocks, Bonds, CD, 401K, anything you cannot use from the hip, and you will be able to buy any car you want later in life.... IMO

When I test drove the MCS, I had made an appointment 2 weeks in advance since I had to drive almost 2 hours to the dealership. When I got there, the motoring advisor had to leave to pick up her sick child. The told me I could not test drive it and I told them that I was not about to spend 5 hours driving and not get my scheduled test drive.

Reluctantly, they gave me the keys for an un-chaperoned hour with the MCS and I beat on it as hard as I could.

lol thats cool. a whole hour to try it out. yea but i all ready figured out the insurance and all that stuff out a little while ago. i already have a job ready for me in september with the Marine Corps so i don't have to worry about not paying insurance. i do plan to save some money there and to put it into the stock market or into bonds of some sort to make more money.( leave it in there for about 5 or 6 years to grow)

i raced an RSX typeS about a week ago!

and well i smoked him! we were rolling about 60 and i almost ran over him!

the we rolled at 80 even worst!

so we got off the expressway and the RSX had header, exhasut, intake, fuel rail, injectors, and stage 3 clutche! yet i kick his ***....

you can see what my car has bellow! the problem with the RSX is the gears are terrible! beside the mini will outhandle them any day!

get the MINI!

I remember seeing a type-s on the interstate in my dad's subaru outback-wow, that could really kick this thing's @$$! now, with our stock MCS, if we pass one, i'll be sure to think...PFFFFFFFFT!

go for the MINI, hands down.

How reliable is the mini? engine wise.......(moded) i'm kind of a speed demo. (transitioning from a mustang to a 4v to me seems like a big step) how are horsepower ratings? if u guys got any info on that stuff plz share it. later
my '04 MCS with pretty normal mods keeps up with (or beats depending on launch) mustang GTs (99-04... spanks the previous models unless they are well modded) in the 1/4 mile and absolutely destroys them at high speeds. Ive got 182 at the wheels right now, but Im lookin to get at least another 20 down there before im done.

I wish more people would reply to old threads instead of creating the 50th one on the same subject.

I agree. Love the search function.. it should be used more often. However, when people reply giving new advice to very specific questions asked months or even years ago, I chuckle.

Funny thing at East Bay MINI in CA they let me test drive the car un-chaperoned too and it didn't seem like the MA's were very busy either. I wonder if that is regular for East bay MINI?
