They are pure evil incarnate.. POS's and in my soapbox position, shouldn't be on any car.. neverless the mini... don't buy a sunroof if you don't liek having it open?!,, I mean do you want a peice of cheap brown plastic hooked to the roof of your car besides killing the lines of the car they are hideous.. I'm all for custom and personalizing the mini but sometimes things just should not be done.. if you add in a sunroof deflector you might as well ducktape a wooden spoiler to yoru car. and just in case this is a total BS remark in the first case, then I will get down from my box before I go too far in to my disposition.

Wow.

Sounds like someone could use some councelling.

But seriously, that's my opinion as well. Unless you are making a bonfire in your MINI, why would you want the sunroof to be open and NOT have wind blow in? I think it just spoils the lines. THat being said, I have never had one on my MINI, but the one on my VW had a negligible affect. I wouldn't put one on the MINI.

^ I don't think he likes 'em.

Personally, I agree that they're pretty ugly and really mess up the designed lines of the car. Also, I've heard that the removable ones do a number on your roof paint (hence, they're really not removable). Nevertheless, the MINI's existing air deflectors do a crappy job and are the source of the evil sunroof rattle...so, pick your poison. (If there was a good aftermarket deflector, I'd consider removing the OEM "flaps" and using it)

I removed the air deflectors they do not do a thing in my opinion. And when the sunroof is open the noise is not that bad. It is actually better with them off.

Having the sunroof open is a lot more pleasant without the ridiculous noise created by the MINI's sunroof. I put a deflector on one of my other cars and I now drive with the sunroof open a lot more. I can actually listen to the stereo or hold a conversation without having to scream.

Also, some deflectors look better than others...and most are stick on and can be removed, (not sure if it'll damage the paint), if it bothers you when someone insults your car because of it.

I was thinking about duct-taping a spoiler on and had a great idea.

I ordered the exact same car that you have and I've already ordered the wind deflector. I completely disagree, in addition to taking the noise away, I think it enhances the look of the car. To each his own...now get off the box already.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.. but so is ugly

the definition of trugly... to be ugly on the outside and inside...

It's not that it fell out of the ugly tree adn ht every branch on the way down.. or even grew up in the whole forset.. its more like it was stung by a swarm of ugly bees

if you can't say somethign nice.. make fun of the people that can

The sunroof comes with wind deflectors that pop up
when the roof opens. Very cool and quite effective.
Nothing else required, IMO.

Godspeed.

Effective at what? You mean the sunroof would be even more more noisey without those little flaps? Hard to believe.....the deflector I put on the sunroof of my Lumina was waaay more effective at quieting the wind noise. Of course I didn't care what it looked like. I think the MINI deflector is loud because it sticks straight up into the wind rather than smoothly deflecting the wind over the open sunroof.

When I had a pontiac Grand Prix i put one of those on. I thought it increased the looks of the car, it also didn't have a defector on it that would pop up when I opened the roof. And it made some weird wind noise. Now on the MINI I don't have any problems with wind noise or anything like that with the roof open. I'm not sure how I'd personally think about one on the MINI, but it doesn't need it. The wind deflector supplied seems to be great all in itself.

>>Effective at what?<<

Effective at eliminating the wind buffetting. When
the sunroof is open, the deflector flaps are up and
you are going about 50mph, you can push them
forward and down. As soon as you do, you get a
low-toned buffetting sound that will drive you nuts.
It feels like your ear drums are going to burst.
With the flaps up, all you get is some wind noise,
which at 50mph is not too loud. I remember test
driving the new VW Bug and with the factory sunroof
open you can't go over 30mph without major discomfort.

Godspeed.

Yeah I don't think teh little one on the car was truly built for sound ( which btw if the windows are down there is less of) but it really keeps the pressure from building up.. which can be really painful... that why soem cars have little moon roofs... that and they are rtyign to stick them in really curvy roofs.. either way if you want to have a giant plastic zit on your car go ahead.

Wow--this guy needs a spell check. And a sedative.

All personal opinions regarding looks aside, do the external wind deflectors actually work?

I remember seeing a post with positive comments on a model made by VentShade on another forum. Does anyone have experience with the aftermarket or MINI deflectors? Ideally, I'd like something that I could use while cruising around in the city but also remove during the winter or on long highway drives.

Thanks
