Aftermarket exhaust mounting

Do any of you have any tips on better securing the Milltek system in the OEM hangers? Overall my system fits great but, the Milltek hangers welded to the mufflers are a little loose/sloppy in the OEM rubber hangers. It kind of floats around in the grommets too much. The OEM metal hangers have a mushroom type nipple on the metal strap rod/type hanger that helps secure/fit the muffler better in the rubber grommet/hanger. The welded hangers on the Milltek does not. It allows the muffler to move around in the mount. Currently I am using extra heavy duty zip tie straps (the ones law enforcement use for handcuffs) to hold the mufflers in the rod mounts more secure in the rubber grommet. I have one on each side on the inner mount. Any tips/suggestions?

I have the Milltek on a 2006 MCS. The exhaust does float around a little but with the four rear hangers it does not move too much. I did have a problem when I first installed the exhaust because it hung a little crooked and would bang/knock against the bracket. I added some spacers (large nuts) onto one of the hangers to straighten it out. The other option would have been to heat-up and bend the bracket a little. Others have posted about a similar problem.

Does your exhaust rattle/hit on something? Or does it just move around more than you expected?

It moves from side to side at least 3 inches. Just looks crappy when the tips are not centered in the opening. You have to recenter the tail pipes a few times a week. The heavy duty zip ties are holding it firmly in place for now and you cant see them but, I was looking for a more permanent solution. I was afraid the heat of the exhaust might melt them. On the other hand, they have been on there for two months now and havent melted yet... I am surprized more people who have this system havent complained about it. It's up there with some of the most expensive systems out there for an R53. For all that money, I just think it should fit better. Peformance and sound quality is great- "fitment", not so great.

There are many threads on the Milltek exhaust centering and rattle problems.
Do an advanced search in the Gen1 Drivetrain Mod section and search for Milltek in the Title.

I contacted Stratmosphere about the problems in 2007.

Here are some threads on correcting the rattle and also centering the exhaust:

You could use a collar with a set screw of the correct size. Looks like like this: http://i21.geccdn.net/site/images/n-...GSC-100-SS.jpg
Maybe one on each side of the rubber hangers. If you can't get the set screw to hold, use some Locktight.

That looks like the best solution I have seen so far. Where can you find them? Home Depot or Lowes?

Most hardware stores will have collars in various sizes. I have seen them at Home Depot, Orchard Supply Hardware, and Ace. McMaster Carr is good online hardware.

Yes, you should be able to find them at almost any hardware store.

Just make sure to get the inner diameter as close to the diameter of the hanger on the exhaust as possible. One way to do that is to take a washer or nut that you have laying around that has the same inner diameter. Use that to find the correct size and take that with you to the store to match up with the collar you are going to buy.
