Is this odd?

Hello all looking for some advice. My drivers door weather stripping seems to be off, either that or its the door. Anyway it doesnt seal right so the noise is annoying while driving and when washing the car I got to be slightly carful there so I dont totally soak the interior. Any suggestions?

This is my passengers side moulding and window

This is my drivers side

Whoa! Could the glass be warped? Has it always been like that? My best guess is it's definitely the door but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in here soon.

I had a less obvious issue with my driver's side stripping. That looks like more than just the rubber though.

Check and see if the glass is OEM Mini glass. If it has been replaced, then that is more than likely your problem. Could be a manufacturer defect, or from what I hear from my technicians, these door glasses are a pain to get just right because they are 'frameless' door glasses meaning that there is no frame around the edge of the glass to guide it up and down. I work for Safelite Auto Glass, but not in the installation field, but I will show this pic to my guys tomorrow and see what they think.

On the underside of the door there are some adjustments for the window. I think the proper gap/tension is such that a piece of paper shut in the door cannot be easily pulled out.

I'm with the "it needs to be properly adjusted" camp.

Thanks for all the replies.

It is a mini original glass. It seems like the door has been replaced at some point but if it has they did a damn good job.

I will check the adjusters, thats something I didnt know. Thanks again for all the help look forward to not hearing wind noise.

So from the looks of it I think it might be the screws at the bottom. It looks like one screw is not in its original position judging by the wear marks. How do I go about adjusting these? Do i need to take the door panel out? Thanks

I would take it into a reputable auto body place and have them look at it and offer an opinion. They can most likely tell you what is wrong so you do not chase something that is not wrong. Door adjustments can be tricky and sometimes it is wiser to have a "professional" handle it then to try to do it yourself, assuming it is just an alignment issue and not indicative of other, potentially larger problems.

The adjusting bolts are loosened and then slid to change the inward rake of the glass. Seems the correct tension is 'paper pulled out with light resistance.' The bolts only tighten to 5ft-lbs. If the up and down position of the window needs adjusting (the window doesn't go up into the roof seal gap enough), the process is more involved and takes some special tools. That would require the body shop.

Ok I adjusted the bolts and 98% of the problem is fixed. There is only a tiny gap towards the bottom of the window now. Thanks again for all the help. Any other suggestions to make it 100% are welcomed.

Did you adjust both of the screws? I can see the window getting tilted if they both weren't set just right.

I did move both. Maybe Ill tinker more with it and try to get it perfect. Like I said it is definitely way better with only a tiny gap at the bottom now.

I'll ask the obvious question, please don't be insulted by it: Is your glass dropping down when you open the door? And does it then park itself the last half of an inch so that it goes properly under the lip of the roof, when the window is in the full up position?

Just to rule out a possibility. Sounds like that's certainly not the problem.
