I have a July 03 build MCS.

Nt 10K service was this week. They ran a version 36.0 ECU update...now the car is driving like a dream. Absolutely no stumble.

I am still having a problem with the shift rattle. The dealer replaced the whole inside...cables, housing, etc. Said the rattle was gone. But now, instead of rattling in 3rd and 5th gears, it does so in 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

When I contact the dealer (100 miles away) he said I'm the first one whose shift rattle problem was not resolved. He would begin researching the problem and make sure it is fixed next time I'm in town.

Anyone else have a similar problem that persisted after similar servicing???

Does it sound like the rattle is coming from the shift lever, or somewhere in front of there? Does the lever vibrate when it rattles?

It is from the shift lever. When I hold the lever it stops. I'll need to look today to see if there is visible vibration and post again.

ahhhh well get a short shifter like B&M or ALTA! Might as well be enjoying more precise shifting, even if it doesn't cure the rattle.

Marty:

This is a good idea...I was thinking that at the very least the dealer will do the installation for free. He's got to tear it apart again anyway.

Just had the car back at the dealer.

I dropped it off to have them do the annual state inspection, fix the rattle, and install a Whalen shift **** that arrived in the mail this week.

The service manager called this afternoon and said that the heavy weight of the Whalen shift **** solved the rattle! I'll pick up the car tomorrow and see if it's true. Can't wait!

The rattle is gone; the Whalen **** is sensational. When the service manager told me that the weight of the **** fixed the rattle, I asked him if MINIUSA would cover the cost of the **** under warranty.

"I don't think so" was the reply....
