R50/53 Cleaning and treating leatherette
After doing a lot of research on NAM, I decided to use Lexol Vinylex. Got it from properautocare.com. From the NAM research, I also decided on 303 Aerospace Protectant on all the rest of the interior and exterior plastic, vinyl, and rubber.
Today on my lunch break, I wiped down my front leatherette seats with the Vinylex, so I don't know how it smells yet when I'm driving (I'm still at work), but I was hoping for that new car smell I got from Classic Mini when I first picked up my MCS.
Cheers,
Dan

The best stuff is the Aerospace 303 vinyl protectant. It is a UV blocker for your vinyl and keeps it soft with out making it greasy or shiny. You can find it at Marine supply stores or Spa stores. Its about $14.00 for a 16oz. spray bottle.

How many times have you applied the Aerospace 303? See in your sig that you have an '04 - just wanted to see if you've used it a lot!

My dealer told me that his first car (the one he actually bought), had leatherette. He really liked it. Then he sold it for another mini with leather. When I asked him the difference he said he liked the leatherette better, less maintenance and better durability. "my next and future mini's will all be with leatherette", was his exact quote. Hence I ordered my mini with the leatherette.

Personally, I choose to heed the warnings about ArmorAll compromising the long-term integrity of plastics. Those people seem to know what they're talking about...

I have had my car for a year and use Aerospace 303 on all vinyl and plastic probably once every two months. The material always looks showroom new without any oily residue. I also use it one my twelve-year-old truck and it brings the finish right back to new looking. Most important it the U.V. protection you get from this product. You can go to their website and find a dealer close by or find an internet source. Aerospace 303 is one of those must have products in my opinion.

>>I shall serve as a test for ArmorAll on the leatherette.
>>Fearlessly I apply the product to my MCS, so that others

>>TEST REPORT/3-5-04: Nineteen months using ArmorAll
>>and leatherette looks like new. Constant butt-in-seat
>>tests yield no sagging, no discoloration, no wear and no
>>tear. Must post pics in next report.

I use Lexol on my leatherette, and all interior plastic. It has sun block, too.
I used to use Armorall on all my old British cars, especially the rubber, and it did a nice job.
I do prefer the Lexol but is this "Armorall destroys stuff" an urban legend or what?

They sell gazilions of gallons of Armoral so I suspect a myth that it's a "harmfull" long term product.
One well learned rule discovered by all of us is: never apply Armoral to your pedals! Remember that first drive with your Converse tennies with those cool shiny pedals ... EEEEAAAAAA ...
