because I drove my 02 MINI for 22 months and 26K miles without putting a ding on a wheel. I have had my Cooper S for 6 days and I twanged a curb at Wendy's drive through and tore up the left rear, then today, my wife was parking the S and hit a curb with the right front and tore up that wheel.

Somebody pleeeeze tell me the track is wider so I have something to blame this on.

Jeff

I don't think so, if it was wider it would not be cost effective for BMW, because each car would have it's own hood mold, and roof mold etc...

Right now I am looking right at the brochure in my office and the dimensions are identical.....75.8

Guess you will have to find something else to blame.....

actually, the MCS has a narrower track than the MC!!
(MC=57.7"/MCS=57.5"rear and MC=57.4"/MCS=57.2"front)
This is only because the wheels for the MCS have slightly
more positive offset than the wheels for the MC
(MC ET=45mm/MCS ET=50mm), and the track measures
from the middle of one wheel to the middle of the other.

I say it is Bush's fault!!!
I too have sinned, but can't even hint at having driven another car. Last Sunday I drove into my friendly Mini dealer's lot and bought myself a kerb. Thankfully it was quite low and rounded. Just did not see it in the middle of the ramp! No damage but quite a jar!

Do you now have 17" wheels? I have heard they are less protected by the tire than the 16" or 15" wheels?

This doesn't explain running into things, but could explain the damage.

Yes I now have 17's and I think you are right, the tires seem to almost be flush with the rim.

So what you are really saying is that I've been running into things alll along.

It's also a function of the lower sidewall profile of the 17 inch tires. If you look at the 15, 16 and 17 inch wheel/tire combos, they all have the same rolling diameter. There's just more rim, less tire.

So the bottom line is I have been running into things all along I was just protected by rubber. I wonder if they still make curb feelers?

I had 18" wheels on my last car. I've never hit as many curves in my life until those expense jewels showed up! FYI, if you ever scratch or dent a wheel you can get them repaired...it's cheaper than buying a new one.

I think you should just be more careful and drive slower when parking or driving in a drive thru etc. I've never curbed a wheel in any car I've ever driven, I just try and be as careful as I can.

Please dont say that or the rest of the sheep will follow
