Official: What you need to install racing seats, links to resistors needed, etc.

Mod please sticky this.

There are so many topics on this posted on the forums and a lot of people always asking this question when installing racing seats: "What resistor do I need to not have airbags lights"

To simplify everything the resistor you need for the airbag in the seat can be purchased here:

http://www.onlinecomponents.com/nte-...tml?p=12005559

Alternatively if you have a Fry's Electronics they sell that resistor there as well, same brand: NTE , Part # is 2W3D3

For the passenger side you want to repeat the same process but you also need a passenger weight mat, contact your local MINI salvage yard if you do not want to tear apart your stock seat, alternatively you can tear your stock seat apart to get this weight mat out and transplant it into your new seat.

NO there is no workaround to this, this isn't a system that can be tricked with a resistor.

Concerning the passenger weight mat:
  1. The passenger weight mat only applies to 2005+. That's when new federal regulations went into effect. It doesn't apply to 2002-2004.
  2. The warning for the weight sensor mat can be disabled in the computer using NCS Expert: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-no-more.html

The reason I don't suggest the NCS Expert is that #1 A lot of people don't have access to the tool, #2 It's not that hard to buy a weight mat and putting it in the new seat.

From what I know about it you'll probably have to remove the existing weight sensor mat for re-use. I read another thread in which the owner bought a new one and it was completely different than the existing mat and wouldn't work.

Hopefully that's not the case, and if you know otherwise please post part numbers to be used in this reference.

Only R56 have a available part number, R53 are not sold seperatly and can only be bought via a new seat cushion bottom or from a salvage yard.

Any instructions out there on how to actually do the mod? I have the resistors but not quite clear on how to get the resistor in there without cutting the harness off. Thx in advance.

Got the air bags out of old seats and cut the plugs off soldered the resister on cover with heat shrink that way they just plug in.

I want to keep my stock seat so I can return to stock. Can I put the resistor into the end of the plug itself?

I would not pull them from a good set of seats I picked up two air bags from a mini salvage yard cheap. I did not want to jam the resister into the plug and damage it that is why I went the direction I did.
