Xenon light issues...
Howdy friends, I'm new to all this so excuse me if you've heard it all before. I have an '05 s with xenon lights which I am told by the dealer need to be replaced because the self leveling equipment in both lights is trashed. Replacement to the tune of $1700. Can these lights be taken apart and repaired? Is there anyone out there that provides such a service?? Can the xenons be replaces by regular halogens from the same generation car ('04)??? If I do replace the xenons with same generation halogens is the wiring plug and play or will I have to come up with my own wiring to operate the halogens. At this time the car is sitting in my garage unable to be inspected because of the light issue and therefore not drivable. Not too much fun when I can't take it out and mush it into the pavement...
So being the cheap son-of-a-seahorse that I'm, I cut pieces of sanding sponges about an inch square and stuck 'em under the inner light housings through the access hole in the side of each light housing. This propped up the lamps so they actually point down the road. Then I used the adjustment screws on the back of the lights to aim 'em and viola! they work just great. There's no reason the little bugger won't pass inspection now that the lights are pointed in the right direction. It pays to be thrifty...

The self levelling recently went out on my '04S and I wound up with one headlight pointing into the ground and the other into the sky. I used an 8mm nutdriver on the vertical adjustment screw near the rear of the headlight assembly to re-adjust the headlights and they have been working fine ever since. Saved me big $ by not having to visit the dealer (over 100 miles away) plus the parts needed.
Adjustment is very easy to do but will take several tries to get the aim perfect since you have to have the bonnet open to access the adjustments. Find a good wall on level ground and have a flashlight handy to find the adjustment screws in the dark.

Hey guys I know that this thread is old but I had the same problem almighty 03 MCS and then finding that even with adjusting the left and right and the up and down adjustments that my auto leveling still isn't working at least on the passenger side. The driver side stutters Kinda yet still goes up and down but the passenger side is completely inactive ...any help?
And that doesn't require removing the wheel covers right? They are easily accessible?
Connections are good. No wiggle or anything. The driver side sounds like its struggling and the passenger looks like it makes an attempt. Weird part is is I adjusted both left and right up-and-down to be completely centered so that there's give no matter which way they go so I'm confused as to why they are having this issue still
