Wrong antifreeze; mobil 1

Well I noticed my antifreeze was almost all gone, so I put mobil 1 anti freeze and coolant in, and now that im reading up it seems like this was a bad move on my part, can anyone tell me if this will create a problem?

I know mobil1 made oil....
Have not seen a branded coolant in that name...
What color is it?
Red, orange, yellow, green, or blue?
the chemical reaction takes a bit...even if you used orange/red, and it turns to jello (thats what happens when it mixes, a few ounces should make it easy to flush...
I bet you let the coolant run so low, it now has an air bubble in the system that meeds to be bleed out...and imo drop the lower radiator hose+heater hose, and flush it....then use the coolant of your choice. Bmw/mini blue is a bit of a hybird...and it is unlikly mobil1 stuff is 100% compatible, even if it is a universal....

When you say “almost all gone” do you mean below the MIN mark on the expansion tank and you added a few ounces?
Or the tank was empty and you added a quart or more?

The color doesn't matter. Different companies will make their coolants different colors. iirc, you need something that is safe for use in aluminum system? I think that mean phosphate and borate free? Don't really remember for sure - been a while since I researched.

If you are really convinced you have the wrong stuff in your MINI, then I'd flush it and put in new coolant. I don't think it is so critical you can't drive the MINI until you get it done. But probably the sooner the better.

Yeah thats where my research led, it also seems like your not suppose to put anything with phosphates, or nitrate, but that leads me to the question of dipotassium phosphate?, well I agree with you though and zippy, I dont wanna to take any chances so im gonna attempt to flush it thanks guys.
* Update on dipotassium phosphate isnt really harmful! if you ever find that in it. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53692

I don't think coolant should just "run low." It's a closed system. I can't really tell you if you're looking at problems because of the current mixture, but I can almost guarantee you have a (possibly problematic) coolant leak someplace.

It would help if you'd tell us precisely what you put in. AFAIK, Mobil One does not make a branded antifreeze.

Stock, the Mini comes with an ethylene glycol type AF, and if you are topping off, it is best to use a EG antifreeze. If you're flushing the system, you could go with one of the other types (e.g., organic acid aka Dexcool, or propylene glycol), although these new antifreeze types are somewhat controversial (not unlike synthetic oil).

As someone else said, you can't go on color anymore. You have to find out what your car has and find the right stuff on the shelf. Or just exactly what the mfg of the car recommends.

Color doesn't matter so long as you're not mixing different colors. My suggestion would be to simply flush it and put one type of coolant in.

Ok the brand is called Mobil Permazone? maybe its a rebrand; either way its said to be controversial so it must be new. I got it at the mobil, but yeah I think im just gonna go to the dealer and buy some oem stuff.

Mobil Permazone Antifreeze and Coolant is a conventional green colored antifreeze containing inhibitors providing protection from freezing, overheating, rust and corrosion when used as recommended. Mobil Permazone Antifreeze and Coolant features a universal low silicate formula for use in all conventional automobiles and light duty trucks and protects all cooling system metal surfaces, including aluminum. When used in heavy-duty applications, the addition of a separate Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA) is required.

Looks like it should be compatible with the oem antifreeze/coolant in small to moderate amounts - not like the VW/Audi orange stuff that gels when combined with conventional antifreeze/coolant

Permazone is a conventional EG antifreeze and should be completely compatible with what is standard on the Mini.
