Now after bleeding with temp at max and fan at low, put everything back. I can't start the engine.

Battery seems to be working, lights are one. But I saw a "Ep" on the panel, meaning error?

when I try to start I just hear knocking under the hood, not just clicking, but louder. Like every half second.

What can I do to fix this? If I can't find a fix for this, I　might need to take it to the garage...Darn. And my wife is going to kill me....lol

Knocking is serious, tow it to a pro.

May be I did not describe it properly. It is not very loud, but louder than clicking. The engine did not start. No moving part.

Anyways, if I can't start it tomorrow, I will tow it to a shop.

I'd still check out the battery first and use jumper cables.

"EP" sounds like you have the CVT transmission ("EP" means "emergency program"). Did you unplug any connectors going to/from the transmission? Check to make sure.

Other than that, when my battery was starting to go about a year ago, I would occasionally get "EP" when starting up, but the car would still start and run just fine. After putting a new battery in, haven't seen "EP" since.

Problem solved. You guys are right about the battery. It was because the seven year old battery went wrong during the bleeding. What made it difficult to diagnose was that the battery did not die, so I could still see lights and words the panel, windows were moving, radio was working. It made me think the battery was ok. But, the battery need to be much stronger to start the car, and my battery was obviously not. I put in a new Interstate battery.

One side question, what is the pipe connect to the battery for? The outlet on the Interstate was at a different place and my mechanics had to add an extension pipe.

That little tube is an overflow tube. If the battery acid expands and overflows, it directs the overflow to a place that won't do any harm, i.e. the top of the transmission housing.

Glad this was sorted out and nice to hear the solution! My battery just straight up died with no warnings (and was pretty straightforward about dying).

I think the weak battery was result of previous overheating. The fan kept running after engine off. There was no heat in the cabin. That is why I decided to bleed the coolant.

Now overheating is gone and battery is new. Everything is working great. Both AAA and my mechanics said the life of the battery is about 4, 5 years. Mine is 7 years old.
