R50 Wiring Diagram

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for my mini. My stand by of ALLDATADIY doesn't have BMW's of any flavor including Mini.

I did a full brake job front and rear, replaced both the pad wear sensors and the light is still on in the dash.

Also the passenger lock doesn't work and the window is also non functional on that side.

I'm good at troubleshooting once I get a diagram, does anybody have a place where I could get one short of buying a FSM for the car?

Thanks in advance! smiley-headbanging.gif?t=1267205923

The Bentley repair Manual has the wiring diagrams in the back of the book.

The BMW WDS interactive wiring diagrams are available here (free): http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/release/en/index.htm. It is what the dealers use.

Internet Explorer (IE7, IE8, or IE9) works the best for the BMW WDS diagrams. You need to install the Adobe SVG Viewer plug-in (http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/ -- also works on Windows 7 although it isn't listed). The latest versions of Chrome and Firefox work well with the SVG graphics, but they don't handle hyperlinks in the diagrams as IE does. Java must also be installed on your computer (http://www.java.com) and you must allow the Java plug-in to run in your browser when it asks you.

The Bentley manual has wiring diagrams from the BMW WDS, but printed out on paper. The Bentley is much more difficult to use because you lose the interactivity and clickable cross reference links.

The Haynes manual (http://www.minicarparts.net/Nxt/sear...+repair+manual) has excellent wiring diagrams although not as complete as the WDS or Bentley. See this review: http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2005/11/the...ual_for_minis/

Hey... on a side note here. I put some new spark plugs in the car and was cleaning the terminals on the coil. I decided to clean the battery terminals and such at the time. I took the battery out (I had to notch the back of the battery box out about 3/4" for the ground cable, it appears somebody put a slightly shorter than stock battery in it and it wouldn't allow the ground to seat) and now when I restarted the car the Brake Wear Indicator lamp was out... WHO KNEW!!!! had to cycle vehicle power to get that one to turn off.

With my older BMWs and Mercedes I never had to power it down, they always auto reset when the fault condition was repaired (i.e. new sensor lamp goes out).

there is a reset procedure you must follow when you replace the sensors ... turn the ignition on but don't start for about 30 seconds .... this resets the sensor circuit

you probably stumbled thru it while playing with the battery

it has been posted here many times .... several times by me! I first found it in the description of the sensor on the Mini Mania site.

Quite possible.... when I was messing around with trying to reset the oil service light I would have thought for sure it would have been on long enough then.... oh well, its better now.

and Thanks to rkw up there for posting the wiring diagram. Looks a lot simpler than I thought it was going to be...

Soon you will have to create an automatic post replier for the many issues (an their solutions) that have been repeated

But, in regards to this issue. I suggest the Bentley Manual regardless, really comes in handy for DIY work.

this issue could have been resolved by an efficient search of this site

or a Haynes - which costs a fraction of the Bentley

I answer a question or two ... and have .. a Haynes ... no Bentley

Yes, an efficient search, which this site is decidedly not equipped with. CumminsForum that I'm also on has a great one I use quite frequently. The one here seems to bring up completely irrelevant and ancient threads with minimal relevant replies. I searched for "wiring diagram" and got bupkiss for anything useful.

One other thing to this point, thanks for contributing to the site by the way, but I have owned probably 15 other Mercedes and BMW's and on each and every one of them when I replace a brake wear sensor the light goes out automatically. When it didn't I assumed it was a wiring problem since the car does have electrical issues and it has been in an accident at some point.

It isn't a matter that I didn't search or read a manual, it has just been another way on every other BMW I've owned so I thought it should go away on its own.

Agreed. I'm a moderator on another vBulletin forum (running v. 3.8.1), and the search there is flawless. With NAM (a much larger forum), I find general internet Google queries are more likely to pull up wanted info on NAM then using the search function. I don't think it's a size issue, because I'm a member of two similarly sized forums that DO have a good search, and all of the ones mentioned are vBulletin, so it's probably not that.

Cheers, Mike
