Hi

I am installing the factory alarm on my 2004 Cooper S. I know the car is 'prewired' for the alarm but I can't find the connector for the level(inclination) sensor. I removed the back left panel and looked everywhere. My friend has a 2003 and his was easy to find; however, he doesn't have the power outlet.
Has anyone else had this problem? If I am unable to locate the cable, do you think I can still have it programmed without that component?

thanks for your help.

mike

Make sure it isn't completely wrapped up with the brake harness cable in black fabric tape. Look for a big lump in the tape. If you find one, it could be the level sensor connector.

The kit for the 2004 is different from the kit for 2002-2003. The tilt sensor is installed in a different place so you will not find any harness in that location. I looked long and hard until I was told the 2004 kit was different. In fact if your kit came with a separate tilt sensor, you don't have the right alarm kit for a 2004 model.

Bamamini, There is a new alarm kit P/N 82 11 0 306 852. This kit is for all Coopers and Cooper s with build dates of 09/03 and later. This kit does not use the tilt sensor that was mounted in the rear quarter panel. The tilt sensor is now incorporatedinto the alarm siren P/N 65 75 6 942 432. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

JD

Thanks for all of your help guys. The kit the German dealer sold me isn't the correct one for my Oct '03 Mini Cooper S. His computers do not even show an alarm for my model year. My wife told the parts manager, my wife speaks German, about the updated alarm and that the level sensor is built into the siren and he acted very suprised! I even showed them your email traffic with the part numbers. Unfortunately, their computers did not show a match! You would think that the German BMW dealer would have the latest parts for the cars they build. After a lengthy discussion, the parts manager agreed to refund my money. He only did so after my wife reminded him that he promised(3 times) that the alarm would work with my car. Normally, they will not accept returned parts once the package has been opened.
I do have to removed the components I have already installed(the sensor and wiper stalk) but no big deal.

Thanks again!

Mike

So installation is the same for 04 except for the tilt sensor?

That appears to be the case.

The 04 alarm installation includes:

1. The thingy in the box on the headliner
2. The replacement wiper stalk
3. The siren under the hood
4. Dealer reprogramming.
