I saw some really old threads about the mudflaps (and they seemed to be only geared to the MC, not MCS so...

It doesn't appear you can order mudflaps for the MCS from MINI, is this due to the greater flare of the wheelwell? Does it really help? Are there 3rd party products that others have used?

And, MINI does offer a magnetc stone protector "shield" that looks like it goes on the body ahead of the rear tire(s), has anyone used this and can comment?

There are flaps available for the MSC and can be purchased from many of the aftermarket supplers. We installed them on the front and have seen a reduction in the amount of road junk on the side of the car.

I purchased them from my Mini dealer. Front pair ran me $11. They fit perfect and really help. The rear ones look huge/ugly, so I passed.

So the mudflaps fit both MC and MCS? That's what I figured.

I can't imagine any physical difference between the MC and MCS in this area -- the plastic wheel arches, fender liners, etc, ought to be completely interchangeable since the fenders and so on are identical. The only thing I can imagine changing this is maybe with the aero kit installed, but that should be the same regardless of model.

Aqualung is right though, even the new accessories catalog says "Cooper only." I don't get it.

I got front mud guards right after I picked up my DS/W MCS. They had to be ordered......rear guards weren't available then. I like 'em.

My Mother-in-law gave me a front pair for Christmas. They really easy to install. She got them from Outmotoring. I took a few pics and Aaron put one on his site.
Front mud flaps
The first thing I noticed after I washed my car is that the water that was left on the wheels that I could not get to to dry off was not sprayed on my doors.

I received front flaps for my 04 mcs as xmas gifts.  purchased at mini dealer. They were easy to install and look great. The rear set looked too big and are expensive. Have not noticed how well they protect the paint yet, everything is frozen here!!!
happy motoring, jeff

I am thinking of getting these for winter use only. If you remove them, are there any holes left? Can the easily be removed or re-installed without any cosmetic issues?

Andy,
You will see the holes. The sad thing is that the only place you would not see a hole is the fastener on the bottom of the flap. I would not recomend removing them and then putting them back on. I don't think the plastic could take it. I really don't think (the front ones) look that bad. I am not a fan of the rear ones.

anybody problems with scraping during hard turns with the front mudflaps?

i'm highly considering getting the fronts since having the black front/rear/side moldings painted body color. rock chips are scaring me into considering the mud flaps. that or clear bra'ing the side pieces.

I'm looking at the paper copy of the installation instructions for the mud flaps, and I can't make any sense of pic III, What is the plug with the down arrow in the circled area of the illustration? Are there 3 mounting points and only 2 fasteners in the kit?

If I recall you use one that is already in place. I think it is the one on the bottom.

well i bought both, front and rear. (an awful service from parts department at the dealer until i spoke with general manager) front ones look great (By the way i got a MCS) rear ones well.... i installed them they didn't look like they belong there.i checked the mounting directinos again and they said Mini Cooper (Disn0t se any S anywhere) so i decided to take them off. (40 bucks to the storage room Lol)

since nobody else appears to have them.. i will chime in here.. I have the magnetic stone guards on my MCS.. they stay on at all speeds.. but get lost when you wash the car.. so remember to take them off when you are at the hand wash..

do they really work?? not sure.. they have been on since i picked up the car in late December.. and the surface underneath has no stone marks...

Do you have to take off the wheels in order to install the front mud flaps?

You don't have to, but it makes drilling the hole much easier. I recommend getting the two push plugs in place before doing the screw. It helps a lot with the alignment.
