Rear Bumper Scuff Protector?

I'm interested in the Outmotoring rear bumper scuff protector. Has anyone applied one? To those of you that use the rear door, do you find you have scratches in the well on the top of the rear bumper?

Rear Bumper Scuff Protector $39.95

I just put one on my 2003 MC. Got it from my dealer for $40 - but Morristown MINI has it for $28 (+ ship) on its Ebay sales. Installation was easy - follow the instructions - you need to ask for them.

Funny thing is this is the same piece that is used for a Suzuki Verona wagon protector with different logo - Suzuki version is $42!

I bought one of these for my PS/Blk a while back, but still can't decide if I want to stick it on the bumper.

Has anyone removed one of these? (In case I change my mind) Was it hard?

I bought a chrome one from Moss before the rubberized ones came out. It looks nice, but my dog has managed to find a way to scratch it, too. I wish I had waited for the rubber one, but it was a good idea at the time, and it DOES help.

My husband installed the OE strip on the car last year before it became mine. It's well worth it.

Installing the strip was just like putting on stone guard film. Removal may be similar.

I wouldnt call it ruberized. its just a textured piece of vinyl.

Go to the decal shop and get the same stuff for 3 dollars.

I have had the peice on since the car was about a month old. I don't find myself hitting the spot much but like knowing its there. I had my tint guy slap it on for me and trim it to fit the Aero bumper.

I got mine from Classic Mini for less than 30 bucks (or so). It matches the rest of the black trim well and I love it. A little more expensive than generic vinyl, but has the MINI logo and looks like it belongs.

I just picked one up at my dealership. I noticed it didn't come with instructions so I got it at motoringfile.com But according to the instructions, I'm missing a piece. From the diagram, it looks like a alcohol cleaning pad. If that's the case then I guess it's no biggie. I just have to mix up a 2 to 1 solution.

Mine got perforated (damaged) pretty easily - will look for something thicker next time.

I just put the "scuff pad" on two days ago... a simple "install" although I didn't get an alcohol pad either. However, now that it's on there, I'm not so sure I like the look (therefore, also interested in the removal process).

I ordered/installed it because my previous MINI acquired 3 scratches from using it like a cargo van. (go figure).

Mine doesn't feel like vinyl or rubber, but more like the grip-tape used on skate board decks... (oh- and a MINI Logo ) A clear one would be nice...

Moss Mini offers one in chromed stainless for $60. It's held on with 3M tape. It's nice and shines up well, but still scratches. I have one on my Cooper.

I have the OutMotoring one on my S. It looks ok, but is pretty lightweight...more like heavy duty shelf paper than a real protector. And, just cuz it has a MINI emblem doesn't really justify the price [$40], when you can go to any discount store for something just as thick...and for a lot less.

I have this on my MCS and when it was put on they did a bad job. I had the passenger side bubble up on me. I peeled it back and cleaned the surface, trimmed it back and put it back on. Now I am missing about 2.5" until I get a new one. Other than that I like it.

I saw this part for the first time last month on Yucca's MINI. It looks good. Even though it is meant to protect from scratches. I will eventually get one to stop that unsightly water line that always happens in that area.

Just start peeling from either corner, it peels right off like a big piece of tape.

I bought one. Once I had it in my hands I thought it was cheap. Did not use it. Instead, installed some clear bra material where this thing is supposed to go.

I was going to get one but when I had the clear bra put on the installer put clear bra across that area so I have clear protection there as well. Works great!

I ordered one with my 05 MCS and it was not dealer installed because the car arrived before the bumper protector and I live 450 miles from the dealer. Mine, too, said it was a Suzuki part. And mine, too, was paper-thin and didn't look as if it would protect anything. I didn't use it.

I expected something like the thick, clear material used to protect headlights. If there was something like that in black it would be great.

Or, how about outdoor carpeting? Astroturf?

I think something like the material used with ClearBra is available. I also have the stainless steel one from Moss Mini. It's shiny but is almost indestructible.

(update from previous post, with photo)

Still not sure how much I like/dislike it. The other day I loaded a 32 gallon trash can into the back. $30 bucks or so for the scuff pad? pennies for peace of mind. A clear one would be cooler.
