R50/53 Which seats are more comfortable?
Which seats would someone who weighs 250 pounds or so find more comfortable, the standard or the sports ones? I thought the sports ones were better, but think they might be too snug for heavier people.
I personally like the Sport seats. They are snug but that is what you want. If you are not sure, test drive cars with both seats back to back.
Cheers

I would agree that trying out driving with both types of seats is the best test.
The sports seats would give the firmer support so I would think that would be the best bet.
Also try cloth vs leather and see if that will make any difference as well.

I weigh a lot less than 250, so can't try them out and judge how someone that weight might like them. I know some people who fit that description, though, and wondered how they would like the seats. I can't take them to the dealer to try them out, though.
I am 6'-4" tall and 260 pounds and the sport seats are fine. I have not had any problems on short drives or long trips.

My wife's Cooper has the standard leatherette seats and my MCS has the sports. I actually like both. In the beginning I could not stand the standard seats in the Cooper CVT, but after our last roadtrip in her car (2,800 miles) I actually found them to be very comfortable on 5 to 6 hour non-stop drives. The sport seats are more supportive and comfy hands down, but are harder to get in and out of due to the more pronounced side bolsters. The standard seats are much easier to slide in and out, but they are flatter and for some body sizes and shapes they are akwardly shaped in the back rest.
Try out both. Most people prefer the Sport seats, but the standards are not that bad to be honest.

Thanks for the feedback! I asked my dealer to add the sport seats to the order. I have most of the things from the sports package, by the way, but don't want the 16" run flats.

I'm average sized, have the sports seats and love them. I keep my MINI in a carport and can't swing the door open completely w/out taking a chance of it hitting, so I slide my seat all the way back before getting out, making it very easy to get past the side bolster with the door partially opened. It also makes it much easier to belt up. It's now habit: get in, fasten seat belt, slide up using the dead pedal as a guage, check mirrors, start car.

A test drive is too short. I suggest you sit in a car at the dealer for an hour or so. Bring something to read.
When I went back to order mine I sat in one and was startled how poorly the seats felt. I almost did not order the car. It was the standard seats and I much preferred the sport seats.
The point is, it's like speakers, no one can tell you what to get, it's what sounds/feels good to YOU.
Good luck and take your time.
